Thanks to the impending arrival of the G.I. Joe, things are about to get a lot more crowded in the “Transformers” universe. This crossover has been years in the making, to say the least, and the pressure’s on for “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” to deliver at the box office and justify the existence of what could be the franchise’s biggest installment yet. Regardless of when that becomes official, however, at least one notable figure is already getting his hands dirty on shaping the next film. Most of the finer details are still in flux at this early stage in development, of course, but at least one plot point is coming into focus. For all the “G.I. Joe” fans out there, you might want to readjust your expectations a bit.

According to director Steven Caple, Jr., don’t hold your breath for any big origin story in this “Transformers”https://www.slashfilm.com/”G.I. Joe” extravaganza:

“It is definitely gonna incorporate some ‘Joes’ characters, but it won’t go into, maybe, the true origins of the ‘Joes.'”

By the looks of it, this seems to be more of a “Transformers” movie featuring “G.I. Joe” in supporting roles, as opposed to a true, half-and-half split. If you ask me, that’s probably the smart route to take. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura echoes that idea, saying:

“The idea of trying to do the whole ‘Joe’ world at the same time is a little daunting. This is a way to bring them into our world, remind people of who they are, and they’ll have a role in the plot.”
