Man finishes degree after 54 years

Ken Peters is a 77-year-old Vancouver man who recently graduated from university 54 years after he first started his degree. Peters began studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1969, but he had to put his studies on hold to work and raise a family. He returned to UBC in 2018 and completed his degree in 2023.

Peters said he is proud of himself for finally finishing his degree and he encourages others to never give up on their dreams. “It’s never too late to learn,” he said. “I’m 77 years old and I just graduated from university. If I can do it, anyone can.”

Peters’ story is an inspiration to many. He is proof that it is possible to achieve your dreams, no matter how old you are. His story also shows that there are many benefits to returning to school later in life. For older adults, returning to school can help to improve cognitive function, increase social engagement, reduce stress levels, and give a sense of accomplishment.

If you are an older adult who is thinking about returning to school, there are a number of resources available to help you. Your local community college or university may have a program specifically designed for older adults. There are also a number of online programs that can be completed at your own pace.

No matter what your age, it is never too late to learn. So if you have a dream of getting a college degree, don’t give up on it. With hard work and dedication, anything is possible.

In addition to the benefits mentioned above, returning to school later in life can also help you to stay connected with the world and to learn new skills that can be used in your current or future career. It can also help you to meet new people and to make new friends.

If you are considering returning to school, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, it is important to be realistic about your goals. It may take longer to complete your degree than it would if you were younger. Second, you should be prepared to work hard. Returning to school can be challenging, but it is also very rewarding. Finally, you should be flexible. You may need to adjust your schedule or your learning style to accommodate your other commitments.

If you are willing to put in the hard work, returning to school later in life can be a great way to improve your life. It can help you to learn new things, meet new people, and achieve your goals.
