Damian Marley’s ‘Welcome to Jamrock’ Album Hits A Million in Sales as It Re-Enters Billboard Reggae Chart

‘Welcome to Jamrock’ by Damian Marley has re-entered the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart for the week ending October 28, 2023. The album first released September 15, in the U.K. and September 16, 2005 in the U.S. has sold 1.2 million units in streams on sales over its lifetime according to data provided WMV by Luminate. Of that amount 900,000 are pure copies and 400 million in On-demand streams as of October 2023.

With guest appearances from Bobby Brown, Bunny Wailer, Black Thought and Nas, Welcome to Jamrock had album debuted no. 7 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and peaked at no. 1 on the Reggae Albums chart upon its release. The album released by Ghetto Youths International/Universal Records sold 86,000 copies in its first week and has since been certified Gold in the United States for sales exceeding 500,000 copies, Gold in Canada for 50,000 in sales, and gold in the United Kingdom for 100,000 in sales.

It is the only reggae album released by a Jamaican in the last 18 years to be eligible for Platinum certification in the U.S. for sales exceeding 1,000,000 units in streams and sales.

Still on the Billboard chart this week is Legend The Best Of Bob Marley & The Wailers extending its No. 1 lead for 197 weeks.

“Best Of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection” by Shaggy is steady at its peak position of 2 and 238 weeks on the chart.

“Dutty Classics Collection” by Sean Paul holds the third position, (peak 2), and has been on the chart for 167 weeks.

“Wisdom” by Stick Figure is at number 4, with a peak position of 1 and 58 weeks on the chart.

“Greatest Hits” by UB40 is at number 5, and 266 weeks on the chart.

“Set In Stone” by Stick Figure moves to number 6, at 275 weeks on the chart.

“Dutty Rock” by Sean Paul remains in the seventh position, spending 206 weeks on the chart.

“World On Fire” by Stick Figure is in the eighth position, with a peak position of 9 and 216 weeks on the chart.

“No Love” by Byron Messia slips to number 9, after19 weeks on the chart.
