In a bold and unexpected move, Jamaican recording artist Jada Kingdom recently revealed to Teen Vogue her shocking departure from Republic Records, as she takes charge of her own musical journey.
“Recently, i’ve been trying to balance both my presence on social media and the business side of things for a reason,” she says as she confirms her exit from the ground breaking signing which happened without a Billboard hit. “Now I’m a fully independent artist, no longer with a label,” the Fling It Back artist says.
Jada and her then public lover Verse Simmonds shared the news of their deal with the New York based Republic Records exactly two years ago. She had also announced that she had a new manager, Marc Jordan. Simmonds posted an image with Jada saying “The best position a man can put u in is a position of power.”

As Jada and Verse has since split romantically, that “position of power” she says became uncomfortable for her and she says he decision to split from Republic is liberating. “I felt so out of place, things weren’t feeling right,” she shared. “I want to take some of my career and keep some of me for me. It’s going to be hectic because there’s no longer a machine behind me, but I always want to be me.”
Despite her independent status, Jada has already garnered attention and collaboration opportunities from renowned artists like John Legend. However, her dream collaboration remains with none other than Rihanna she tells Teen Vogue. Expressing her admiration, Jada exclaimed, “Rihanna, Tiwa Savage, and Nicki Minaj. On the male side, Drake and Dexta Daps.” The latter she says she already fulfilled and the collaboration that was nothing short of a dream come true.
As the Slow Motion actress continues to pave her own path, she remains steadfast in her commitment to honesty and truthfulness. She has fearlessly shared intimate aspects of her life, including discussions on sexuality, mental health, and her experience with a miscarriage. Under Republic Records Jada dropped the Stephen McGregor produced songs GPP, Speak In Tongues from John Legend’s album Legend which incidental has Jada’s ex Verse Simmonds as a writer.
