Kidnapped Corps members freed in Rivers after ransom payment

Seven members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), who were kidnapped by gunmen while travelling from the NYSC orientation camp in Ondo State to Port Harcourt, have been released after a week in captivity. 🙏🙇

The incident occurred on the East-West Road, along the Rumuji axis in Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State, with five of the Corps Members escaping the abduction while the remaining seven were released after a ransom was paid.

According to eyewitnesses, the released corps members were in poor physical condition, with their bodies covered in mud and mosquito and sand-fly bites.

They reported to the police station where the incident occurred to make statements and retrieve their belongings. While the spokesperson of the police command confirmed the release of the corps members, she denied knowledge of any ransom payment, adding that an official statement would be released on the matter on Thursday.
