New This Week:

This week was the final meeting of The Connect Residency.

The Connect Residency is an international program meeting virtually with exhibits at partner galleries. The opening receptions happen approximately twice a year The program invited the participants to create a new project or innovate an existing project.

It entailes 4 virtual meetings between all International and local Residents under moderation by founder Hollie Davis.

What is the time commitment? two hours once a week for four weeks.

In this way, the Resident can develop their project, expose it, share their concerns, and thus receive returns that they can use to promote and direct their creations. There will also be guest speakers to expand the artists’ networks in Chicago and beyond.

I loved this residency. I honestly went to bed fueled with creative energy after every meeting. The other artists participating and the speakers provided amazing insight and recommendations that have-and will continue-to influence my work.

The residency meetings have ended but there will be a final art exhibition in July at the Beverly Art Center in Chicago. I have an ambitious piece planned! I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

I was a guest speaker at Oak Park River Forest High School

I was recently a guest speaker at the local high school. I was honestly a bit nervous since I haven’t spoken to a group IRL since before the pandemic started. However, these teens were so amazing even the ones who looked disengaged asked the most thoughtful questions and were full of curiosity over the 1950s knitting machine I brought for them to try. It was fun!

I have 2 pieces of art up at Scythia, a fiber art exhibit in the Ukraine.

The exhibit starts in June, but I was thrilled to learn that one of my pieces is included in their magazine article about the exhibit by Artemorbida.

Art Shared This Week:

Finally, I’m so super excited to offer my Artists invite-only links to my Live Virtual Gallery Openings through Spatial.io. This app is FREE and available on phones, tablets, desktops, or VR. In this space, I’ve created virtual galleries and immersive experiences where you can view art. The virtual live openings give us a chance to run our avatars through the gallery and chat via text or voice. I think this will be a really fun way for us to connect. Mark your calendars because I’ll have the first opening for us on Friday, June 16 from 5:00-7:00.
