‘Blue Rush’ podcast episode 159: Giants Keep Their Season Alive, Beat Commanders

NY Post

So, you’re saying there’s a chance?

It may have taken until the late October, but the Giants won their first game at home of the season and kept their hopes of playing playoff football alive.

But there’s no room for error at this point.

Their 14-7 victory against the Washington Commanders was a much-needed development after what has been nothing more than a complete nightmare of a season, filled with injuries and disappointing performances.

The defense stayed hot for another week by racking up six sacks and forcing 10 Washington punts.

Tyrod Taylor also helped the G-Men accomplish something they haven’t done all season as well: score a touchdown in the first half.

Darren Waller and Saquon Barkley both helped to buck that trend with their respective touchdowns.

While their 2-5 record still doesn’t reek of playoff aspirations, the Giants schedule does appear to be a little more favorable than their first seven contests. However, because of the hole they’ve dug themselves, Big Blue needs to make sure they take care of business from here on out.

And that beings with their MetLife Stadium roommates, the New York Jets, this Sunday.

To react to the encouraging win against the Commanders, we bring you a new “Blue Rush” podcast with Lawrence Tynes, Brandon London and Paul Schwartz.

Blue Rush Podcast with Lawrence Tynes, Brandon London & Paul Schwartz:

  • DEFENSE CAME TO PLAY: Holding the Commanders to seven points was exactly what the doctor ordered and the Giants’ struggling offense needed. With Dexter Lawrence recording two sacks and Kayon Thibodeaux grabbing 1.5, the defense teed off on Sam Howell and Co. in its second consecutive strong outing.
  • POSSIBLE QB CONTROVERSY?: With Daniel Jones being limited in practice last week, all signs pointed to Taylor getting his second straight start. The 34-year-old backup quarterback took advantage and threw for two touchdowns with no major mistakes. With Taylor looking good behind center, should the Giants be in a rush to get their $160 million man back?
  • SPECIAL TEAMS PROBLEMS: You know there’s a problem with special teams when the fans in attendance broke out a few Bronx cheers when Darius Slayton called for a fair catch when he caught the ball on punts. It was the miscues earlier in the game that led to the Giants essentially holding tryouts for punt returners.
  • NO ROOM FOR ERROR: The Giants don’t look like a playoff team at 2-5, but they have a chance to keep their good mojo going into a battle of MetLife with the Jets. If they’re able to win two in a row, does Big Blue actually have a chance to still sneak into playoffs despite their abysmal start?
