Signs at Strand Beach warn the public of polluted water.

After a pipe collapsed and led to the spilling of raw sewage, the City of Cape Town closed Strand Beach.
On Monday, Strand ward councillor Carl Punt told News24 the main Sewer line, called the Trappies, had collapsed and that the City had fixed it last Thursday.
"City Health took precautionary measures by putting up notice boards on Strand Beach. Sewer spillages did happen during the reparation process of the Trappies sewer line, and due to the high increase of sewer flow when it rained, especially during peak hours, on a few days during the last two months," he said.
