AirAsia CEO shared photo of getting a shirtless massage during a meeting

The CEO of Airasia is facing backlash after he posted a picture of himself receiving a massage while shirtless in the middle of a management meeting.

Tony Fernandes, 59, posted the now-deleted photo on LinkedIn, touting his own company culture that allows him to receive the rubdown after a “stressful week.”

“Got to love Indonesia and AirAsia culture that I Can [sic] have a massage and do a management meeting,” he wrote on Monday.

The post quickly garnered ridicule on Social Media, with many slamming the CEO as “unprofessional” while questioning why he would post such an “inappropriate” photo to social media.

“What made you think sharing this was a good idea? Seriously bad judgment call … hope the decision-making in your airline is better,” one person wrote on X.

Many also claimed Fernandes appeared clueless at how his employees would react to speaking with their boss during a management meeting while he flashes his bare chest.

“I don’t think the women in your company would feel comfortable or safe in this context, and given you’re the boss, they likely won’t challenge you or say anything,” one woman commented on the LinkedIn post.

Fernandes defended himself by saying that the massage was suggested by one of his employees after he complained about the pain he was suffering following an 18-hour flight.

“You can never really explain the thought process behind a post, so I deleted it,” he told Bloomberg. “I didn’t mean to offend anyone.”

Fernandes has run the budget airline for more than two decades, originally purchasing it for less than $1 from the Malaysian government in 2001.

Since then, AirAsia has served as a major regional company that serves more than 150 destinations across 25 countries.

Public stunts aren’t new to Fernandes, who previously won a Formula 1 racing bet against Virgin Airlines founder Richard Branson in 2013, forcing the British entrepreneur to dress as a stewardess and serve drinks to AirAsia customers.
