News24 | Tuesday's weather: Rain expected in parts of KZN, which could lead to flooding, damage to property

The South African Weather Service issued warnings for disruptive rain and severe thunderstorms in a number of districts in KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Limpopo. 

Impact-based warnings: 

- An Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive rain, which could lead to the flooding of roads and settlements, danger to life (due to fast flowing streams), damage to property and major disruption of traffic flow along the coast and interior of the King Cetshwayo and uMkhanyakude districts of KwaZulu-Natal.

- A Yellow Level 1 warning for disruptive rain, which could lead to the flooding of informal settlements, roads, low-lying areas and bridges as well as localised disruption to municipal services in places over the Ugu district, Durban metro, the eastern parts of uMgungundlovu and iLembe districts, the western parts of King Cetshwayo, the eastern parts of Zululand District and the Umvoti Local Municipality.

- A Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, with possible damaging winds, large amounts of small hail and heavy downpours, which may cause the breaking of tree branches and damage to poorly constructed settlements over the western and central interior of Limpopo, excluding the extreme south-western parts. 

The weather in your province: 

It will be warm in the extreme northern part of Gauteng, otherwise cloudy and cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but partly cloudy in the south-west.

The Expected Uvb Sunburn index is high.

Mpumalanga will be warm in the lowveld, otherwise cloudy and cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme south-eastern parts of the province.

Cloudy and cool to warm conditions are expected in Limpopo, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the central and north-western parts.

The North West can expect fine and warm weather, with partly cloudy and cool conditions in the east, and isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme east. 

It will be cloudy, windy and cool in the eastern parts of the Free State, with isolated showers and thundershowers, otherwise partly cloudy and warm, becoming fine by the afternoon.

The Northern Cape can expect morning fog patches along the coast, otherwise fine and cool to warm, but hot in places in the north.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-easterly, reaching fresh at times from the afternoon.

It will be cloudy, with fog patches, in the Overberg in the Western Cape in the early morning, but partly cloudy in the north-eastern interior. 

It will be fine and warm to hot, but very hot over the north-eastern interior.

It will become cloudy along the south-west coast from evening.

The wind along the coast will be light and variable along the west and south-west coast at first, otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly, becoming strong in the west in the afternoon.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.

The western half of the Eastern Cape will be cloudy at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm, becoming fine in the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.

The eastern half of the province can expect cloudy and cool conditions, with isolated showers and rain, but scattered along the Wild Coast.

It will become partly cloudy in the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be fresh north-easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning fog over the interior, otherwise cloudy and cool, but cold in the western high-ground.

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected, but widespread in the north-east. 

The wind along the coast will be moderate south-easterly, but fresh in the north, becoming moderate north-easterly from the south in the afternoon. 

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.
