Suspect in Natalee Holloway case expected to plead guilty to extortion

Joran Van Der Sloot, the main suspect in the unsolved 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway, is expected to plead guilty to extortion after trying to get her mom to pay him $250,000 to reveal the location of the teen’s body.

Court records indicate that van Der Sloot intends to plead guilty in federal court in Alabama on Wednesday, according to reports, after previously pleading not guilty.

The Dutch man was extradited to the US in June to face fraud and extortion charges tied to the disappearance of Holloway, 18, who was on a class graduation trip in Aruba.

She was last seen leaving a bar with Van Der Sloot, who was 17 at the time.

Van der Sloot was identified as a suspect in her disappearance but never charged in connection with her death.

Her body was never found.

The lead suspect in Natalee Holloway’s 2005 disappearance is due in court next week is is expected to plead guilty in a fraud and extortion case.

U.S. prosecutors allege that in 2010, van der Sloot sought $250,000 from Beth Holloway to disclose the location of her daughter’s body.

A grand jury indicted him that year.

After receiving a $25,000 payment upfront from the desperate mother who spent years trying to figure out what happened to her daughter, her lawyer met van der Sloot in Aruba — but the plan quickly unraveled.
