  • Pastor Dwayne Gordon was killed, and two others were wounded.
  • Apostle Mello du Plessis and several other church leaders visited the congregation on Monday to offer their support.

No arrests have been made three days after Pastor Dwayne Gordon was shot dead by men who stormed into the Eagle Christian Centre in Newlands, Johannesburg.

On Monday, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said the investigation was ongoing.

Gordon was killed as he delivered a guest sermon at the Church on Friday night.

A "restoration conference" at the church was scheduled over three days. The shooting happened minutes after Gordon was introduced to the congregation.

Two other congregants, Pastor Enrico Mosavel and Sebastian Mosale, were wounded in the shooting. They were still recovering in hospital.

During a visit to the church on Monday, the walls and ceiling were marked with bullet holes. Police tape was placed on a chair near the pulpit.

Apostle Mello du Plessis and several other church leaders visited the congregation on Monday to offer their support.

On Sunday, distraught family and friends gathered at a memorial service in Toekomsrus, Randfontein, to remember Gordon's life.

His cousin, Gershwin, previously told News24 that the news of his murder had thrown their lives into flux.

Pastor Dwayne Gordon was shot and killed during a church robbery in Newlands, Johannesburg, on Friday night.

Gershwin said they were devastated and asked that the family be kept in prayer as they grieve.

In a statement released via its Facebook page, Eagle Christian Centre said it was supporting the congregants who had been subjected to the ordeal.

The church said the congregants were severely traumatised.

"We are devastated by this loss and extend our deepest condolences to Prophet Dwayne Gordon's family and friends during this difficult time."
