This latest incident happened three days after the deaths of two Soweto boys, Neo Khang and Leon Jele, on Sunday.

They died after allegedly eating biscuits and drinking juice they had bought at a spaza shop in Naledi.

Two girls, who ate the same food, were still receiving treatment at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.

Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, the MEC for Health in Gauteng, said officials from her department's outbreak response team had gone to Naledi to intensify awareness around the handling of food.

She said the team spent the day in Naledi and surrounding areas, engaging with the locals, and conducting health education about food handling, preparation, storage, food safety and the importance of checking food expiry labels.
