Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a knee injury during the third quarter of Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the Texans and did not return.

The second-year signal caller was brought down by pass rusher Jonathan Greenard and emerged from the play hardly able to put any substantive weight on his knee.

Pickett was ultimately able to limp off with assistance and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The unfortunate news caps off an awful afternoon for the Steelers, who dropped to 2-2 after enduring a 24-point setback to the Texans. Houston improved to 2-2 with the win.

The immediate severity of Pickett’s injury is unknown for the time being, though with a knee injury, the worst is often feared in football.

Pickett left the game as the Steelers trailed 20-6, having yet to get in the end zone in the contest -— and they never made it there in the blowout loss.

To make matters worse, that wasn’t the only meaningful setback for the Steelers on Sunday.

Starting tight end Pat Friermuth left with a hamstring injury and offensive tackle Dan Moore also exited with a knee ailment. Neither returned to the game.

The 23-year-old Pickett completed 15-of-23 passes for 114 yards and an interception before exiting the contest.

Steelers backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky stepped in to relieve Pickett.

Trubisky started five games for the Steelers last season, including the first four games of the year, before being replaced by then-rookie Pickett.

He completed just 3-of-5 passes for 18 yards.

Pickett, who was selected 20th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, played college football at the nearby University of Pittsburgh, where he threw for 42 touchdowns as a senior in 2021, leading the Panthers to the ACC Championship.
