Jets have shot to stun NFL world and Taylor Swift if they can upset Chiefs

With all the focus on a certain pop star scheduled to attend Sunday’s Jets-Chiefs game, it seems appropriate to compare the noise surrounding the Jets this week to decibels usually reserved for concerts.

Since they lost 15-10 to the Patriots last Sunday, there have been calls for Zach Wilson to be benched, discussions of who should be on the hot seat, a radio interview with team legend Joe Namath in which he went scorched-earth, Aaron Rodgers saying the team needs to grow up, speculation on unhappiness in the locker room, and lots and lots of attention on Taylor Swift attending this game.

It’s been quite a week for the Jets.

Now, they get to face the Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champions, and all-world quarterback Patrick Mahomes on “Sunday Night Football.”

With everything that has swirled around them all week, it will be interesting to see how the team responds in this game.

The biggest spotlight will be on Wilson, whose hold on the starting quarterback job is tenuous at best. Another terrible outing, and the Jets may have no choice but to turn to Trevor Siemian, who was signed Tuesday, to start next week in Denver.

“I would have hoped that things would have gone better for us,” Wilson said. “I understand the frustration with the outside, and I get it because it hasn’t been as good as what I have wanted either. All I can do is just progressively keep trying to work to improve and get better. I think it comes down to just that. Ignoring the noise and focusing on the things I need to focus on.”

There were signs of frustration last week in the loss to the Patriots with a few heated sideline conversations.

The Jets are 1-2, but it already feels like the season is on the verge of slipping away from them.

Kansas City comes to MetLife Stadium with the No. 5 offense in the NFL and the No. 6 defense. Though the focus will be on Mahomes and Travis Kelce, the Chiefs defense might be the key to this game.

The Chiefs (2-1) have allowed just three offensive touchdowns this season.

The Jets have scored just three offensive touchdowns this season. That is not a matchup that favors the Jets.

Everything about this game points to a blowout win for the Chiefs, but maybe the Jets can turn around their season with an inspired performance.

If they do, the noise inside MetLife Stadium will be louder than Swift concert.
