Giants suffer brutal Saquon Barkley déjà vu in nightmare first half vs. Cardinals

It’s déjà vu for Saquon Barkley and the Giants.

A pass from quarterback Daniel Jones smacked off the star running back’s hands and fell right to Cardinals defensive back Jalen Thompson, who caught it for the interception.

The Cardinals capitalized, as Matt Prater’s 44-yard field goal gave Arizona a 20-0 lead at the half.

It was nearly identical to Jones’ first interception in the Giants’ embarrassing 40-0 Week 1 loss to the Cowboys.

In that game, Barkley briefly corralled Jones’ pass on a third-and-19 in the first quarter before losing it as he was tackled by Trevon Diggs.

The ball subsequently fell right to Daron Bland, who returned it for a touchdown and the first pick-six of Jones’ career.

It gave the Cowboys a 16-0 lead before they continued the onslaught.

In total, the Giants were outscored 60-0 through their first six quarters this season, and were the only team in the NFL yet to score a point until Jones ran for a touchdown on the opening drive of the second half.

It’s the third-most points allowed by a team before scoring since 1950, according to Sport Radar.

A major sticking point in Barkley’s contract negotiations with the Giants this offseason was reportedly his acumen as a pass-catcher and not just a traditional running back.

Already, Barkley, who is playing on an adjusted franchise tag, has made two costly errors as a pass-catcher through the first six quarters of the season.

The Giants’ defense was as woeful as the offense in the first half, letting Joshua Dobbs carve them up.

The journeyman quarterback, who has never won a game as a starter, entered the half with 146 passing yards as well as 41 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The Cardinals picked up a whopping 16 first downs in the first half compared to the Giants’ five, and own a 241-81 advantage in total yardage.
