Midtown Manhattan takes the prize for the nation’s highest parking rates

A recent report found Midtown Manhattan has the highest starting Parking costs nationwide. Robert Miller

Drivers who park in Midtown Manhattan better have trunks full of cash.

The nabe takes the top spot nationwide for the most expensive parking costs, with $443.51 being the cheapest monthly price for a space in the area, according to a report by FINN car subscription service.

The cost for a garage parking or valet spot in the bumper-to-bumper Big Apple nabe dwarfed those in other cities, with San Francisco and Seattle ranking a distant second and third – at $300 and $250, respectively.

“The extra $300 a month I have to pay for [daily] parking in Midtown is ludicrous,” real estate broker Tricia Lee, 47, who regularly drives in to the East 50s for hair and dental appointments, told The Post.

“Manhattan parking has gotten completely unaffordable,” she added, noting that she shells out an additional $600 for parking near her office in SoHo. “Even the fact I can afford it, it’s a waste of money.”

Kristy Cates, who pays $350 a month for a garage spot near her apartment further north, in Sugar Hill, said the parking fee was a “luxury expense” to avoid circling hours on the block for a spot — and protect her car from getting vandalized.

“The fact I can hop in my car, get out of the city, run errands with my daughter — for my sanity and my desire to stay here, I need that access. It’s worth it to me,” she said.

Those who spend hours circling for free parking near their homes, however, could be required to cough up cash for spots, too. Democratic state senators are eyeing charging Big Apple motorists as part of a residential parking permit scheme to help bail out the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and cut down on commuters hogging spots.

Kristy Cates said the $350 she pays for a garage parking spot near her home in uptown Manhattan is worth her sanity.

Garage workers and owners, however, have been sweating the impact the city’s congestion pricing plan — which will charge drivers up to $23 to enter Manhattan below 60th Street — will have on their prices and clientele.

“It’ll definitely have a toll on this garage,” Jean Palic, an attendant at City Parking on East 59th Street, previously said. “We’ll probably lose a lot of customers.”
