School nutrition programme gets R9.2bn of basic education dept’s R31.8bn budget

The department of basic education has allocated R9.279 billion to the national School Nutrition Programme (NSNP).

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga presented her department’s budget for the 2023/24 financial speech at the National Assembly on Thursday.

Malema: ‘I have achieved my mission with Zuma, it’s done’

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says he has achieved his mission with former president Jacob Zuma and there’s nothing more he can do.

Malema was responding to Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh’s question on SABC’s Unfiltered, on being the biggest “flip-flopper” in SA politics.

Life behind bars: Hillary Gardee’s alleged killer sentenced for double murder of sisters

The convicted Hlabirwa Rassie Nkuna was sentenced to two life imprisonment terms at the Mpumalanga High Court on Thursday 18 May for the double murder of his girlfriend and her sister Marcia last year.

The sentence comes after the 37-year-old pleaded guilty on Tuesday this week to murdering his girlfriend Pretty Mazibuko and her police sergeant sister Marcia, in Kanyamazane, outside Mbombela (formerly known as Nelspruit), on 15 May 2022.

Senzo Meyiwa trial: Judge rules that witness audio may be broadcast

The murder trial of Senzo Meyiwa resumed on Thursday at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, amid much drama.

First, controversial disbarred advocate Malesela Teffo appeared before Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela, saying he represents a Sifiso Meyiwa.

Judgment reserved in Ramaphosa’s challenge of Zuma’s private prosecution

The South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has reserved judgment in President Cyril Ramaphosa’s legal challenge against the Private Prosecution proceedings initiated by his predecessor, Jacob Zuma.

After hearing the case on Wednesday, the full bench of the high court on Thursday listened to the final day of arguments in Ramaphosa‘s application to review and set aside Zuma‘s private prosecution bid against him.

Snow and sub-polar chill to hit South Africa

Brace yourselves, South Africa! A sub-polar chill is set to roll in, bringing with it icy conditions and substantial snow in the southern Drakensberg and Lesotho.

Meteorologist Annette Botha warns that the icy blast will kick off from Thursday evening, 18 May.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle rattled after high-speed car chase in New York

In what could’ve been a bad repeat of how his mother Princess Diana died, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were chased by incessant paparazzi who wanted to get coveted shots of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in New York on Wednesday night.

But the duration of the chase seems inconclusive, as Prince Harry’s spokesperson said they were pursued for more than two hours in the Big Apple.
