What if Pokemon Red and Blue Was HD?

The first ever Pokemon games, Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow kicked off the everlasting Pokemon Franchise. Dating back to 1996, of course, the first games were not the same as the games we have now.

Back then, the Pokemon Games were black and white with pixelated graphics. The technology in the past is so different from what we have now. Nintendo released the titles for the Game Boy in Japan in 1996, with the North American launch coming in 1998.

They are considered to be among the best games released for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color. They are also among the best-selling games of all time. The first three Pokemon games went over 47.5 million units sold between the Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow versions.

While these Pokemon games were iconic in their own rights, what if they would release in High Definition? However, it is highly unlikely that they will make a Pokemon Red and Blue remake on the Switch.

At the current time, we have Unreal Engine and many more advancements in terms of game development. Remaking these games would come easily and it could have impressive graphics and stunning visuals.

Thankfully, we do not have to wonder anymore as a fan remade the original Pokemon games into HD.

Youtuber Dott Fanmade HD Pokemon Red and Blue

YouTuber and 3D artist Dott reimagined the game and what the games might look like in high definition. Made in Unreal Engine 5, Dott’s version of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue resembles the visual style of other games. To be honest, it definitely looks like Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler series.

Characters, trees, and certain other sceneries take the form of highly detailed pixel art sprites. Meanwhile, buildings and rocks are 3D modeled with flat but detailed textures making them resemble cardboard constructions.

While it is only a fanmade creation, it sported impressive graphics and mesmerizing lighting. To be honest, if this was real, I would buy it in a heartbeat no matter what the price is. Unfortunately, Dott’s creation is not playable as it only served the purpose of imagining what it would look like.

Hopefully, Nintendo notices this and uses this art style in future Pokemon games or even potential remakes of earlier titles. Playing Pokemon with the art style of Octopath Traveler is certainly a beauty to behold.

As an OG Pokemon fan myself, this is something that will definitely have me excited. If you share the same sentiment as me, the only thing we can do is hope that Nintendo adopts this. You can watch Dott’s creation right here on this link.
