Brazil legend describes Victor Osimhen as ”champion”

Former Brazil forward, Edmundo Alves de Souza Neto has rated Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, describing him as a champion.

Edmundo, who was nicknamed “The Animal” during his playing days shares similarities in playing style with the Nigeria international.

The 52-year-old was asked if his nickname would suit the 24-year-old Napoli star, and he said he does not know if he can be labelled as the best in his role.

He told Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport; “Well, I don’t know him that well, we have different characteristics, I played further back, and he is a centre-forward who knows how to go deep behind the defenders.

“I consider him an absolute champion, but I don’t know if he can be considered the best in his role at an international level.”

Osimhen was top scorer in the Italian top-flight last season with 26 goals from 32 games.

Napoli president, Aurelio de Laurentiis, has reiterated the club’s desire to ensure that Victor Osimhen stays till his contract expires in 2025.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in Osimhen this summer. The quartet, however, failed to table a formal offer for the Nigeria international.

Saudi Arabia Professional League club, Al Hilal recently had two lucrative offers rejected for the striker by Napoli. The Blue Waves are reportedly ready to make a third bid for Osimhen.

He told Sky; “Osimhen will stay here. He won’t leave. He’s under contract until June 2025, where should he go? Contracts should be respected. We have been on the same page with Osimhen since day one. Don’t be worried.”
