President Bola Tinubu’s government has reconsidered the schedule for Federal Executive Council meetings and moved their official day from Wednesdays to Mondays.

The meetings might not be conducted every week unless there are urgent topics to discuss, according to Mohammed Idris, the minister of information who announced the new policy.

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, said he handed over a letter detailing the road infrastructure that President Muhammadu Buhari’s immediate predecessor left behind. The memo covered a total distance of 18,897 kilometers.

“We also brought to FEC’s attention the fact that several projects were granted, some of which lasted up to 20 years, abandoned while still in progress without adequate funding, and so on. A total of 24 bridges and 12,000 kilometers of additional important roads have also been added.

“You know, FEC approved the continuation of these inherited projects and the new proposal, and it instructed the Federal Executive Council to form a committee made up of the Chief of Staff, the Minister for Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy, the Minister for Works, the Minister for Planning and Budget, the GCEO/GMD of NNPLC, the chairman of FIRS, and the SSA on Tax Reform, to meet and come up with strategies to source for the funds and everything patterning to the funding.

The FEC was also briefed about the continuing projects. In order to reduce the amount of inflation and variance, some of the finished projects were redesigned on concrete, and moving ahead, new projects would be constructed on concrete.

Accordingly, the FEC endorsed the idea that the majority of ongoing projects should be planned with concrete pavements, depending on the degree of completion, whether asphalt is being installed there, and other factors.

“FEC also authorized the Phase 1 coastal road, which connects Lagos with Port Harcourt and Calabar. From S4, which departs from this stretch, Phase 2 extends to Sokoto and Ogoja.

It was approved to be completed using engineering, procurement, and construction along with finance, or EPC + F. Eight additional highways that were begun during the previous administration for concessioning and have completed all procedures were also authorized. because November should be the month in which the financial close is achieved.

There were really nine, but the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta route was removed and transferred to the Ogun State Government on the grounds that it should build the road independently and in accordance with the HDMI hardware development management strategy. There will be no reimbursements for it, but they will still toll it. Additionally, the concessioning of the 25 additional roads, which takes a very lengthy period under the PPP model, was also authorized.
