Forget Katz Head To P.J. Bernstein’s

Everyone told me that Katz is “the best Jewish-style deli”, after yesterday, I beg to differ. Dinning at P.J. Bernstein at 1215 Third Avenue between 70th and 71st Streets, blew me away and had me strategizing my next trip back.

I started off with and ice coffee ($3.99) and was thrilled to see it was Served with coffee ice cubes, which made this  seriously fabulous.

To start with my guest and I split the Triple Delight ($22.95), a gold broth filled with a Matzoh Ball, several mouthwatering melting Kreplachs, Chunks of Chicken, Noodles & Carrots. This is mothers love in a bowl and the Kreplach’s were sensational.

Next up were Homemade Pierogies served both boiled and fried, stuffed with brisket and potato, served with fried onions ($17.99). These delectable treats dissolve right into your mouth.

A traditional dish, Potato Latkes (3) were homemade with freshly grated potatoes and onions, served with apple sauce or sour cream ($18.75). These are crispy and not at all greasy.

For the main sandwiches Pastrami and Brisket($21.99). Each sandwich has a 1/2 pound of meat and is served with a creamy cold slaw, pickles and mustard or Russian dressing. This meat was so delectable and again melted in your mouth. The Pastrami was the best I have ever had. One of the best parts of P.J. Bernstein is that you can eat and not feel overly stuffed. It is like your body is getting exactly what is good for it.

To end the meal cheese blintzes (4) ($17.95) served with SourCream, cherry jam or blueberry jam. So light this was the perfect ending for a afternoon of seriously amazing food.

P.J. Bernstein’s has all standards of a classic Jewish Deli chopped liver, gefilte fish, stuffed cabbage, corned beef,  tongue, smoked fish: smoked salmon, sturgeon, whitefish, whitefish salad! and for those who are not into Jewish deli food burgers, salads, smoothies and a juice bar.

P.J. Bernstein is steeped in transition and is the perfect place to treat yourself to food that is out of this world. They also do take-out and catering for the holiday gatherings making those memorable moments even more special. I can not recommend P.J. Bernstein enough and can’t wait to return.
