A California man is convicted of smuggling a Byzantine-era mosaic depicting Hercules from Syria and trying to sell it for $20 million.

Mohamad Yassin Alcharihi was found guilty of illegally importing the mosaic, which dates back to the third or fourth century AD and was looted from a Syrian archaeological site. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

A Canadian teenager survives 54 hours in the wilderness after getting lost during a hike, thanks to her survival skills and a whistle.

Anaya Singh, 15, went missing on Sunday after she got separated from her family in Jasper National Park. She managed to find water, shelter and food, and used a whistle to signal for help. She was found by a helicopter on Wednesday, suffering from hypothermia but otherwise in good condition.

A bus carrying a wedding party bursts into flames in India, killing at least 25 people and injuring 15 others.

The incident happened on Friday morning in the state of Uttar Pradesh, when the bus collided with a truck and caught fire. The bride and groom were among the survivors, but many of their relatives died in the blaze.

A road accident involving a fuel tanker and several vehicles in western Kenya kills at least 48 people and injures dozens more.

The accident happened on Thursday night on a busy highway near Malava town, when the tanker lost control and exploded. Many of the victims were passengers in minibuses that were engulfed by flames.

A new portrait of the Milky Way reveals ghostly lights from ancient stars that were torn apart by our galaxy’s gravity.

The image, created by combining data from several telescopes, shows streams of stars that were once part of smaller galaxies that merged with the Milky Way over billions of years. The streams trace out the shape and history of our galaxy’s halo, which extends far beyond its visible disk.
