Ranked teams

No. 2 De La Salle 33, No. 3 San Ramon Valley 27, OT

The showdown between the best teams in the North Coast Section lived up to the pregame hype, and then exceeded it, as the schools went into overtime after San Ramon Valley’s rally from down 15 points in the final four minutes of regulation. SRV quarterback Luke Baker rushed for 181 yards and threw for 204, and Derrick Blanche scored the winning touchdown in an unforgettable game that kept De La Salle’s 32-year unbeaten streak against NCS opponents alive. Darren Sabedra was in Danville and has the full story here.

No. 4 Pittsburg 54, Freedom 0

Pittsburg built a 48-point lead at halftime en route to routing host Freedom in Bay Valley Athletic League play. Marley Alcantara completed 9 of 14 passes for 114 yards and four Touchdowns to lead the way as the Pirates improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the league. Jamar Searcy, Jadyn Hudson, Bobby Shaw and Anthony Bookout were on the receiving end of Alcantara’s TD passes. Searcy finished with two TDs and the Pirates also got rushing touchdowns from Rolph Mosley, Jr. and Elijah Bow. Freedom fell to 1-6, 0-2. Next Friday, Pittsburg will be at home to play and Freedom will travel to Antioch. – Darren Sabedra

No. 6 El Cerrito 47, Pinole Valley 0

El Cerrito ran its winning streak in Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division games to 17 after a comfortable victory over Pinole Valley. Guardian Harper, a 185-pound EC defensive back, rushed the passer like a player twice his size, ending the night with four sacks and one forced fumble. Gauchos quarterback Michael Vanhook completed all five of his passes for 168 yards and three TDs. WR Jayvon Bolds caught two passes for 51 yards and two TDs, and Washington State commit Kamani Jackson reeled in a 30-yard TD. Running back Micah Avery rushed for three touchdowns, and Ziare Eastman ran for one. El Cerrito’s showdown against Salesian at the end of the season could decide the league championship. The Gauchos (7-0, 2-0) play at Hercules on Friday, and Pinole Valley (2-5, 0-2) travels to De Anza on Saturday. — Joseph Dycus

No. 7 California 21, No. 16 Monte Vista 14

California played well defensively to slip past Monte Vista in a thrilling EBAL Mountain Division game. Running back Julian McMahan put Monte Vista on top at the end of one quarter with a six-yard TD run. California tied the score in the second quarter when Derek Trottier recovered a backward Monte Vista pass and ran it in for a touchdown. Luke Taylor gave Cal High a 14-7 lead on a wide receiver reverse in the third quarter, and Saydi Abdul-Kareem scored on a 35-yard TD run to put the Grizzlies up 21-7. McMahan, who rushed for 156 yards on 29 carries, cut Cal High’s lead to seven points in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs could not finish the rally. California (5-2, 1-0) plays host to San Ramon Valley on Friday, and Monte Vista (4-3, 1-1) travels to Clayton Valley Charter. — Joseph Dycus

No. 9 Los Gatos 55, Mountain View 2

Six different players scored first-half touchdowns as the Wildcats improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division. Quarterback A.J. Minyard threw first-half TD passes to Boxer Kopcsak-Yeung and Jaylen Thomas, Jay Mallugari blocked a punt that Max Thomas returned 8 yards for a score, and Shane Timmons, Scott Garwood and Kayden Bakhtiari added rushing touchdowns as Los Gatos built a 41-0 lead at halftime. Zane Frey and Andrew Sandoval rushed for TDs in the second half to make it eight players in all to reach the end zone for Los Gatos. The Wildcats appear headed for a showdown with Wilcox on Oct. 27 to decide the Bay title. Mountain View lost its third straight after a 3-1 start. All three defeats have been to Bay opponents, putting the Spartans in danger of missing the Central Coast Section playoffs. Five Bay Division teams will receive automatic berths, but one will have to hope for one of five at-large berths handed out by the CCS seeding committee. Los Gatos led 48-0 before Mountain View got on the scoreboard with a fourth-quarter safety. – Mike Lefkow

No. 14 St. Ignatius 15, No. 10 Valley Christian 14

St. Ignatius’ second consecutive trip to Santa Clara County seemed destined for the same fate as last week’s visit to St. Francis when Valley Christian scored two touchdowns to take a 14-0 lead with 11:10 left. But SI staged a late rally to grab the lead and survived the West Catholic Athletic League game when Valley Christian missed a 48-yard field-goal try as time expired. Soren Hummel’s pass to Pierce St. Geme on a two-point play accounted for the decisive points. Jarious Hogan scored the touchdown that made it 14-13 from 4 yards out. Hummel’s 21-yard TD pass to Hogan cut the margin to 14-7. Uchenna Eke’s 38-yard TD run in the third quarter gave Valley Chrisitan the lead. Joseph Stephens’ 23-yard run early in the final quarter made it 14-0. Valley also got an interception from Joseph Patterson. Next Friday, Valley (5-2, 2-2) will visit St. Francis and SI (4-3, 2-2) will face Sacred Heart Cathedral in the Bruce-Mahoney game at Kezar Stadium. – Darren Sabedra

No. 13 Campolindo 35, Northgate 14

Northgate gave Campolindo an early fight as the Broncos, in search of their first victory of the season, led 14-7 late in the second quarter. But Campo evened the score with 32 seconds to go before the break and outscored Northgate 21-0 in the second half to stay undefeated in the Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division. Timothy Daugherty, whose first touchdown gave Campo a 7-0 lead, put his team in front for good when he crossed the goal line from the 1 to make it 21-14. Sebastien Antonios-McCrea’s 1-yard run widened the margin to 28-14 and Daugherty’s fourth TD of the game pushed the advantage to 21. Josh Tsai and Luke Bonardi intercepted passes for Campo. The Cougars also got 78 yards in 12 carries from Mack Fisher and four catches for 62 yards from Joe Revelos. Campo improved to 5-1-1, 3-0. Northgate is 0-7, 0-4. Next Friday, Campo visits Las Lomas and Northgate travels to College Park. – Darren Sabedra

No. 22 Christopher 45, Santa Teresa 13

Leading 21-13 at halftime, Christopher heated up in the second half on its home field in Gilroy on Thursday and went on to defeat Santa Teresa to improve to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Mt. Hamilton Division. Jaxen Robinson completed 11 of 18 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns. The Cougars also got 96 yards and two TDs in 11 carries from William Rizqallah. Amari Bluford caught two touchdown passes and Evan Vernon grabbed one as Christopher remained tied for first with Live Oak, a team it hosts on Nov. 3 to close the regular season. Santa Teresa had won its previous three games. The Saints fell to 3-4, 1-1. Christopher visits Lincoln-San Jose next Thursday. Santa Teresa travels to Live Oak on Friday. The

Saints will probably have to win two of their final three games to make the Central Coast Section playoffs. The top four finishers in the Mt. Hamilton automatically qualify. – Darren Sabedra

East Bay

Alhambra 49, Mt. Diablo 47

Alhambra quarterback Beau Blau accounted for six touchdowns, Mt. Diablo running back Herschel Turner rushed for 299 yards, and a halftime adjustment changed the game for Alhambra in a wild showdown for the top spot in the Diablo Athletic League Valley Division. Joseph Dycus has the story from Martinez here.

Kennedy-Richmond 30, St. Patrick-St. Vincent 29

Senior Deondre Prim was a one-man show in Kennedy’s stunning upset against host St. Patrick-St. Vincent. Prim made himself right at home on the Bruins’ turf, scoring all four Eagles touchdowns and two of their three 2-point conversions in the come-from-behind win. Kennedy (6-2, 1-1 TCAL Stone) trailed 29-16 going into the fourth quarter. Prim, playing quarterback, scored both touchdowns in the period on keepers, then added the 2-point conversion that put the Eagles up by the final margin with 7:07 left in the game. In all, Prim rushed for two TDs, passed for another six points and recovered a fumble for a touchdown. He also had nine tackles, two interceptions and forced a fumble. “I’ve been here for nine seasons,” Kennedy coach Greg Marshall said. “That was probably the best performance I’ve witnessed.” Probably? The victory should put Kennedy in pretty good shape to make the North Coast Section playoffs in Division VI. The Eagles still have games left with Vallejo and Richmond, but should do no worse than 1-1 in those. SPSV (5-2, 1-1) also is in good shape for the playoffs in Division VII. But the loss to Kennedy likely hurt its chance to win the TCAL Stone. The Bruins finish the regular season at St. Mary’s-Berkeley on Nov. 4, and the Panthers are the highest-rated team in the division, according to the calpreps.com computer. – Mike Lefkow

South Bay/Peninsula

Branham 43, Piedmont Hills 7

Branham, playing at home on Thursday, built a 21-7 halftime advantage on its way to a blowout victory in BVAL Santa Teresa-Foothill Division play. After going ahead 14-7, Branham widened the cushion to two touchdowns when Lewis connected with Elias Antillion from 54 yards out. Lewis threw for five touchdowns. Preston Conrad caught two of them, covering 80 and 45 yards.  Antillion also had two TD receptions. Piedmont Hills fell to 2-4, 0-2. Next Friday, Branham will play host to Independence and Piedmont Hills will be at home to face Pioneer. – Darren Sabedra

Hamilton) fell behind 7-0 two minutes into the contest after fumbling away its first possession, then scored the next 37 points. The Acorns appear headed toward a Mt. Hamilton Division showdown versus Christopher on Nov. 2 at Live Oak in what will be the regular-season finale for both schools. Regardless of the outcome, the two teams are shoo-ins for the Central Coast Section playoffs. On Thursday, Live Oak scored six touchdowns. Lineman Zach Allard, LB Riley Roberts and CB Jordan Sharpe were standouts defensively, contributing to the shutout. James Perez had an interception. “We made good halftime adjustments to take advantage of what they were giving us defensively,” Prospect coach Rick Esparza said. Prospect (6-1, 4-0 BVAL West Valley Division) plays at James Lick while San Jose (2-5, 2-2) hosts Gunderson on Friday. — Glenn Reeves

Woodside 35, Fremont-Sunnyvale 15

Woodside moved into a three-way tie with Fremont and Carlmont atop the PAL El Camino standings with a big win at home on Thursday. Evan Usher led Woodside with 140 yards and two touchdowns in 21 carries. Oliver Lyssand added 54 yards and a TD in six carries and caught a 51-yard pass. Mason Furtado ran for 56 yards and a TD in four attempts and caught a 14-yard TD pass. Furtado also played a big role defensively. Daniel Torre and Cal Adasiewicz each intercepted a pass for Woodside. The Wildcats scored the first two touchdowns before Alexander Solarez’s 6-yard run cut the margin to 14-7 heading into halftime. Henry Buenrostro’s 54-yard TD pass to Solarez brought Fremont to within 21-15 with five minutes left in the third quarter. But Woodside added two more touchdowns to put the game away. The Wildcats improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the league. Fremont fell to 5-2, 2-1. Next Friday, Woodside will play host to Carlmont and Fremont will be at home to face Santa Clara. – Darren Sabedra
