Inspired by Jack London’s novel The Call of the Wild, it was Gordon’s childhood dream to command a team of dogs and follow in the footsteps of the Klondike Gold Rush explorers who used this trail.

He meets Pierre-Luc Fortin, expert musher and owner of 29 loyal Alaskan huskies, and is introduced to his seven-sled dog team.

Gang member Reuben has been left traumatised and in a coma after being double-crossed by crooked casino owner Willy Bank, and Danny decides that payback is in order.

He plans a scheme that will leave Bank penniless, but needs the help of an old enemy.

Murder on the Orient Express, 9.00pm, Channel 4

Enjoyable Agatha Christie mystery, directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh as Poirot, with Daisy Ridley, Derek Jacobi and Johnny Depp.

An American businessman travelling on the Orient Express from Istanbul to Paris tries to hire Hercule Poirot to be his bodyguard as he has had death threats made against him.

The sleuth refuses bu twakes up the next morning to hear that the man was stabbed to death while the train was held up by heavy snow – and there’s no shortage of suspects among the passengers.

Loving, 11.50pm, BBC One

A terrible time for a really good movie.

Director Jeff Nichols’ critically acclaimed fact-based drama stars an Oscar-nominated Ruth Negga, with Joel Edgerton, Will Dalton and Michael Shannon.

In late-1950s Virginia, interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving are targeted by the authorities and arrested, leading to a momentous legal battle that would end with the Supreme Court’s historic 1967 decision.

Family Flick

Pokemon Detective Pikachu, 3.00pm, BBC One

Fantasy adventure, starring Justice Smith and the voice of Ryan Reynolds, with Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe and Bill Nighy.

Student Tim Goodman sets out to find his missing detective father by teaming up with a wise-cracking talking Pikachu that his dad, Harry, used to own.

With help from reporter Lucy and her Psyduck, they attempt to track him down before time runs out.

Sport

Rugby World Cup 2023, 4.15pm, RTÉ2

Today’s coverage begins with Scotland v Tonga (KO 4.45pm) in a Pool B encounter at Stade de Nice.

Scotland are playing their first match since an 18-3 defeat at the hands of holders South Africa in their opener two weeks ago.

They will be hopeful of getting to winning ways against the Tongans having won four of their previous five meetings against the Sea Eagles.

Daire O’Brien presents, with analysis from Hannah Tyrell and Jerry Flannery.

Then in Live Rugby World Cup 2023 (7pm, Virgin Media Two), there’s Wales v Australia (Ko 8.00pm) in a Pool C game at OL Stadium in Lyon, as the two favourites to progress from the pool battle it out.
