Goodwood racing tips

1.50: Aggagio (to place – 4 places) 9/4 – 1pt

The Coral Goodwood Handicap is contested over 2m41/2f – ideal for many a hurdlers and flat horses with unique stamina.

After a poor run at Chester, Tritonic ran well in third at Royal Ascot over this distance in the Ascot Stakes, but will have to out-run 12/1 odds.

Aggagio just loves running here and was a surprisingly tame fifth last time out in a Class 3 handicap, but other than that run his form here reads: 111212. He was running off top-weight and didn’t get the best of starts, but here might be different and he will at least get in the top placings based on his record here.

2.25: Nostrum & Epictetus (exacta) – 1pt

It will be no surprise to see Ryan Moore ride home Nostrum to victory at short odds for trainer Michael Stoute in the Juddmonte silks.

He beat Embesto by three lengths in a listed race at Newmarket in July having run well to come third in a Group 1 – following on from another victory at Newmarket in Group 3 company.

Only real threats on paper look to be Epictetus, under Frankie Dettori, if appreciating the drop back to a mile, so makes for a great Exacta if that does come off, or the lightly raced Knight in the hands of James Doyle.

3.00: Dutch Decoy 12/1 & Bopedro 20/1 each-way – 1pt

If the ground dries enough for the going to be confirmed as good, Dutch Decoy is a great bet at 12/1 having improved on his last four runs in this sort sphere, with his most recent, a victory at Nemarket by a neck.

Most read in Horse Racing

Bopedro will appreciate another go over a mile having placed close behind Dutch Decoy at Newmarket two weeks ago and could reverse the placings with the weights a little more in his favour.

He’s never raced at Goodwood before but based on his recent runs should go well and is easy to side with at such a huge price.

3.35: Highfield Princess 10/11 (NAP) – 2pt

Hard not to back Highfield Princess – the fan favourite mare has run incredibly well in defeat on her four latest runs in Group 1 and 2 company.

With one at York at least being attributed to her carrying 5lb extra than the eventual winner Azure Blue.

She’s by far the top-rate horse of the field and should make no mistake with this chance, to scoop even more massive prize money into her earnings for trainer John Quinn and owners Trainers House Enterprises.

4.10: Hamish 4/5 – 1pt

Hamish is a similarly dependable horse and even at this short price can help many multiples.

The seven-year-old is also 117-rated, like Highfield Princess but is a stamina horse.

His last six runs have seen him finish in the top two – including in Group 3 and Group 1 contests, between 1m4f and 1m6f.

He was a heavier odds-on favourite last time out at York but could only justify that price by a nervy small margin of just a head.

That was his first run since May and should be even more capable with conditions set to suit.

5.20: Balance Play 5/1 1pt & Loyal Touch 12/1 e/w – 0.5pt

It’s another Frankie Dettori horse that could be sided with at an each-way price, as Loyal Touch could be well in here up in trip and on his first run since being gelded.

If that has the desired effect, while he’s down 2lb in the ratings he could make all.

Balance Play, trained by Ralph Beckett looked great on victory at Chester last time out and has great form behind some promising runners at Epsom and Salisbury.

Including close up behind Quddwah and third behind Torito in June.

Galway racing tips

8.10: Stratum 15/8 – 1pt

On the face of it it looks as though Stratum shouldn’t be this sort of price.

But at Royal Ascot was giving away 3lb to Dawn Rising who was six lengths ahead in Berkshire.

The weights have completely turned around here though and the ten-year-old should be able to make a return to form down to a mark of 105.

Now given 7lb to Dawn Rising who could improve but will have to do a lot to fend off the Willie Mullins-trained horse in this scenario.

P+L since 10/07/23: +37.75pts
