Newbury racing tips

1.50: Gushing Gold 13/8 0.5pt

For an incredibly busy Friday of racing we start with the flat racing at Newbury with the meeting featuring plenty of value, lots of runners and even features a listed race at 4.45pm.

This is potentially the most open given these are for fillies who haven’t won yet at the age of two so there could be some surprises from the debutants or even from horses who didn’t quite make an impression on their first start.

However, Gushing Gold takes the favourite spot and looks like justifying a shorter price under Oisin Murphy for trainer Andrew Balding.

The filly came a decent second on debut at Leicester before heading to Royal Ascot‘s Albany Stakes and although came ninth still sets the standard in that calibre on her first start over 6f.

Betties Bay is a half decent price but she also went to Royal Ascot, and instead of going up a furlong like the favourite dropped down to 5f in the Queen Mary, both Group 2 races.

On her debut she placed behind Mapmaker who didn’t do well in comparison, placing 16th in the same race as Gushing Gold.

Raqiya on the other hand makes her debut for trainer Owen Burrows under Jim Crowley in the Shadwell Estate colours which have been very successful in the big events lately.

By Blue Point she can’t be faulted on debut but might have work to do if showing any sort of greenness. Plenty of the sire’s progeny have done well on debut but more take a race to get into things and the Balding Murphy partnership has to get the backing in this.

2.25: Trafalgar Square 13/2 – 0.5pt each-way

And it’s the same partnership that catches the eye in the next for a nice small each-way bet with Trafalgar Square ticking a lot of boxes on debut, out of a Group 1 runner and by Too Darn Hot.

Boiling Point is also by Too Darn Hot but holds a Group 1 entry already with a lot of confidence from the yard so should be watched in the market before placing any real bets.

Maximum Dividend is an obvious choice but was a surprise second by a nose on debut at 33/1 and although has the experience, one of these debutants could offer much more value in running well off the bat.

3.00: Warm Spell 11/10 (NAP) – 2pt

Tipped this horse last week in a Maiden Stakes Class 3 at Newmarket’s July Cup meeting at 4/1, taking the pick ahead of Emperor’s Star, Dallas Star and the ten-strong field.

The colt comes into this with the ground better suited though and is a clear choice once more under David Egan for trainer Roger Varian.

Placed behind Thunder Blue on debut and the step up to 7f should really suit this colt by Mehmas.

3.35: Fox Journey 2/1 – 1pt

This Roaring Lion colt is the pick of the bunch here stepping down in grade and is actually a great price available around 2/1.

The grey wasn’t that far off Torito two starts ago on Derby day at Epsom over 1m2f.

Stepped up to the mile and a half at Pontefract seemed to do the trick though could only muster a close fourth under Harry Davies.

Now Jim Crowley gets booked in the saddle he appeals even more for the owners King Power Racing Co and could surprise a few if running from the front dictating things.

4.45: Asadna 11/8 – 1pt

It’s Murphy’s ride again that takes the preference for trainer Alice Haynes, in the horse’s first ride for the new yard since changing hands from George Boughey’s yard.

Won on debut by a mile ahead of Fifty Grand Slater, and that form has proven to be quite useful.

But at Royal Ascot stepping into the Group 2 Coventry Stakes didn’t look his day despite being the 7/2 fancy of the day.

Many favourites didn’t live up to potential across that meeting though and should fire this time in what seems a perfect race to bounce back.

Killarney racing tips

3.40: Sole Pretender 7/2 – 1pt

Robbie Geoghegan takes off 7lb to the top-weight who could defy that mark as the chaser is always up there at the finish in these kind of races over fences.

Refused to race at Tipperary’s Grade 3 hurdle but steps back over fences today for trainer Norman Lee and looks a much safer bet than most with previous form in the likes of the Arkle at Cheltenham Festival.

Did very well in listed company on his last run almost defying a big weight gap with the eventual winner while stepping up to 2m7f and could be even better back down to 2m.

Haydock racing tips

3.50: Prince Alex 9/4 – 0.5pt

Won six times from his 17 flat turf races, but that last win came all the way back in July of 2021.

Prefers the softer ground and back on a course he’s won at before could spell a return to the winners’ enclosure, especially down in the weights considerably while also stepping down in grade yet again.

Has largely been seen in highly competitive Class 2 handicaps since his last win for owners Amo Racing and has changed hands multiple times too but looks set for Tom Dascombe.

And it seems experimenting with dropping down in trip is over as he clearly prefers the 1m6f which he goes at again today.

Reasonably placed at Newmarket last time and that came despite rearing at the start so should go even better if running more efficiently.

Newmarket racing tips

8.05: Star Guest 7/4 – 1pt

Upped 10lb for emphatic victory here last time out on her first start at 6f six runs into her career.

Hasn’t ever been far away in defeat and already has two wins including at a mile so should be able to cope with that rise as she clearly loves to get ahead and may have found her ideal distance at the same time.

That run was just her second run under William Buick and the Godolphin team are looking very strong recently.

Hamilton racing tips

7.40: Sea Of Roses 6/1 – 0.25pt each-way

Andre Balding’s filly is given 5lb from the colts of the field and she has great form in defeat despite her tame effort in the Group 1 Oaks.

But ran a great race at Ascot’s Ribblesdale at a massive price finishing fifth of 17 and although most of this field has Group form, she could benefit from stepping back to 1m3f.

She placed just fifth seven lengths behind Soul Sister back in May and also ran well on soft ground her first run of the season which may also play to her favour today under Hayley Turner.
