Grand Salami Betting – Guide to Placing Grand Salami Bets & Top Sportsbooks to Use

Tired of picking through the same old moneyline bets and over/unders? Do you ever wish there was a way you could just…like…bet on all the games at once?

Sounds crazy? Well, it probably is, but it’s also a ton of fun. Welcome to Grand Salami betting, one of the most ridiculous (and entertaining) ways to bet on sports.

A Grand Salami bet is basically an over/under on steroids. Instead of picking just a single game’s total to wager on, you’ll be wagering on every game in the sport. Yes, you heard that right — every game at the same time.

Currently, MyStake is the best place online to do it, but we’ll show you a couple of other sites that let you make Grand Salami bets as well.

We’ll also cover some Grand Salami strategies, which sounds like something that would cause you to clear your browser history.

Ready to get nuts? Let’s get started.

Best Sites for Grand Salami Betting

What is Grand Salami Betting?

In a typical over/under bet, you try to determine how many points two teams will score in a given contest. The bookie will set the line, and you just decide if you think the final combined total will be more or less than the line they’ve set.

Sounds simple enough? Good — the over/under is one of the most basic bets in sports.

On the other hand, a Grand Salami bet takes every single over/under for the entire day’s slate of games. So, if you’re betting on an MLB Grand Salami, the sportsbook would put out their best guess of the total number of runs that would be scored in all the games that day, and you’d try to decide if they were high or low.

While you could conceivably have a Grand Salami bet on any sport, they’re typically reserved for baseball and hockey. It’s much easier to come up with totals in low-scoring sports than in the NBA, or, say, Big 12 football.

You may also find Grand Salami wagers offered in soccer leagues, but that’s rare — it’s largely a North American thing.

Even though a Grand Salami bet is easy to understand, there’s more complexity here than you might think. We’ll explain why — and how that can benefit you — shortly.

Grand Salami Betting in Baseball

During baseball season, you’ll have no shortage of MLB bets to make. It’s not unusual for every single team to compete on the same day, so you could have 15 games’ worth of action to add up if you want to play a Grand Salami.

When you go to your favorite sportsbook’s Grand Salami page, you’ll likely see a list of all the day’s action, with the over/under for each game listed as well. It will look something like this:

  • Houston Astros at Texas Rangers 9.5
  • Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants 8.0
  • New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox 11.0

And so on, for all the day’s games.

Now, one thing you’ll probably notice is that if you add up all the over/under totals for the day, the number you come up with won’t match what’s listed for the Grand Salami. No need to go back to elementary school, though — you didn’t screw up the math.

The bookies will add a little bit of leeway for themselves, usually in the form of a few extra runs on top of the total. They understand that it’s extremely unlikely that they’ll nail every single line on the docket, and they want to give themselves as much room for error as possible.

Of course, it’s also possible that they’ll subtract a few runs to make the Grand Salami total, but this is fairly rare.

After all the day’s over/under lines are listed, you’ll see another total with a moneyline next to it, such as:

  • Over 75.5 (-110)
  • Under 75.5 (-110)

This is the Grand Salami bet. Not only does it list the total you’ll have to hit, but it also provides details on the payout you’ll get if you’re right.

Most Grand Salami lines are between +100 and -120, so you rarely see long odds here. It’s a lot like a typical over/under bet.

Grand Salami Betting in Hockey

You generally won’t find as many games in a hockey Grand Salami bet as you would in an MLB one, as the season is half as long and the teams usually have nights off between games.

Still, you’ll sometimes see lineups with over a dozen games, so the slate can fill up fast.

Beyond that, Grand Salami Betting in hockey is very similar to how it’s done in baseball. You’ll see a list of all the over/under totals for each game and a line for the Grand Salami bet.

The biggest difference between making one of these bets in hockey versus baseball is that there’s usually a lot less leeway for a hockey bet.

The lines in baseball can vary wildly based on everything from weather reports to which stadium is hosting the game. It’s not unusual to see one game with an over/under of 6 runs and another with an over/under of 12.

In hockey, the over/unders are generally between 5 and 6 goals for every game. Sure, there are outliers, but they don’t get as crazy as what you’ll find in baseball.

Grand Salami Betting in Other Sports

While Grand Salamis are most common in baseball and hockey, you may be able to find them in other sports as well.

Soccer is the most common, so you may be able to find a Grand Salami on Premier League or Bundesliga action at some sportsbooks. However, there usually aren’t as many matches on any given day in those leagues, which can reduce the usefulness of the bet. It’s worth checking on a full league day, however.

You’ll likely never see one in sports like basketball or football, where there’s more scoring — things get complicated quickly, and there’s just not enough meat on this particular bone for Vegas to go through the hassle of all that math.

How to Make a Grand Salami Bet

Making a Grand Salami bet might be daunting if you’ve never done it before, but the process is quite simple. Below, we’ll walk you through the process at MyStake.

Step One: Open an Account

  • Click the green “Join” button on the upper right-hand corner of the homepage
  • Fill out your personal information and confirm your email
  • Make your first deposit (and don’t forget that while MyStake automatically credits you for the signup bonus, many other sites do not, so be sure to get that free money)

Step Two: Head to the Sportsbook

  • Click the “Sports” tab at the top of the page
  • On the left-hand side, you’ll see columns with all the various sports MyStake offers
  • Click the sport you want, then the appropriate country/league

Step Three: Make Your Bet

  • Once you have the day’s slate of games in front of you, start picking whether you want the over or under for each game (you have to pick the same bet for all of them — you can’t do a mix of overs and unders, obviously)
  • Your bet slip should pop up on the right-hand side showing your action; click the “multiple” tab to change to a Grand Salami instead of a bunch of single bets
  • Click the blue “Place Bet” button. Congratulations! You just made your first Grand Salami bet!

It’s important to note that the process for making a Grand Salami bet will vary from site to site, and we don’t have the space to walk you through every site here.

However, it’s usually simple to figure out, and if you have issues, most sites have live chat features that can show you what to do.

Grand Salami Betting Strategies

Grand Salamis seem complex since you’re potentially betting on over a dozen games at once. However, they’re a glorified over/under bet, so there are not as many moving parts here as you might think at first glance.

Make Your Own Lines

The most important thing to do when betting a Grand Salami (or making any over/under bet) is to make your own lines for each game. Do you think the sportsbook is too generous or pessimistic about any game? Add them up yourself and see what number you get.

Until you go down the schedule, game-by-game, you won’t know what the total should be — you’d just be guessing.

Of course, don’t expect Vegas’s number to be wildly off your own (and maybe check your math if it is). However, finding a discrepancy of just a few points could be all you need to make a profitable bet.

Take the Schedule into Consideration

This is especially important in hockey but can also be valuable info for baseball games.

Is a team in the middle of several back-to-back games? Are they having to play the day after a long, cross-country flight? If so, there’s a good chance they won’t be playing up to their normal standard, so consider docking them a point or two.

On the other hand, a team that’s well-rested and playing at home might be primed for a points explosion. You might want to pad their total a bit when making your lines.

One of the best situations you might encounter is when those two situations collide. If a team on the tail end of a long, grueling road trip has to match up with a fresh home team, it could be a recipe for a blowout. You might want to bet the over in that situation (and place a few bucks on the home team while you’re at it).

Matchups are King

In hockey, you should look at the styles of the two teams playing. Do they favor a frenetic style of play, or is it likely to be a defensive slugfest? If a team that fits the former description is playing a team fitting the latter, the better team’s style usually wins.

However, pitching matchups should be your primary consideration when betting on baseball. Check which teams have their aces taking the ball and which ones will send their fourth or fifth starter to the mound.

You can also check how each team’s lineup stacks up against opposing pitchers. Do they struggle against lefties? Has this guy owned them for years? Take all that into consideration before putting your money down.

Look at the Injured List

This is a no-brainer, but before you bet on the games, you’ll want to make sure you know who will actually be playing in those games.

If a team’s leading goal scorer is out with an injury (or their top slugger is taking the night off), you’ll want to calibrate your scoring estimates accordingly.

You’ll also want to quantify what kind of impact a star coming off the injured list will have. Do you think they’ll rejuvenate the team, leading to a scoring explosion? Or is it more likely they’ll take things slow, and it will be at least a few days before they’re back to their regular selves?

These are the questions you must answer if you hope to succeed betting Grand Salamis.

Don’t Guess

The great thing about betting on hockey and baseball is that there are a lot of games, so you have plenty of opportunities to get your bets in.

If you look at the slate of games and have many questions, it might be wise to save your bet until the next night. The more you guess, the more chances you have for your Grand Salami to go off the rails.

Remember, Vegas exists because the bookies don’t guess — they know. If you can’t confidently say the same, you might consider putting away your wallet.

Of course, if you’re just betting on the Grand Salami for fun, more uncertainty could mean more fun. Just don’t expect to turn a profit on nights that you’re making it up as you go along.

Where Can I Bet the Grand Salami?

Most online sportsbooks allow for Grand Salami betting, but that doesn’t mean they’re all equally good. We’ve listed a few of our favorites above, each of which has been thoroughly vetted for trustworthiness and reliability.

What If One of the Games in a Grand Salami Gets Canceled?

If any of the games in your Grand Salami gets canceled, the whole bet will be deemed a push, and your money will be returned to you — so don’t think you can find a loophole by betting the “under” when you know there’s rain in the forecast for one of the baseball games.

How Did the Grand Salami Get Its Name?

No one seems to know who coined the term “Grand Salami” to describe this bet or why. The best guess is that it refers to the slang term used to describe a grand slam in baseball, which was likely coined by reporter Jack Lang in 1966 and popularized by announcers like Bob Uecker and Dave Niehaus.

Since a grand slam involves bringing all the runners home at once, it makes sense that betting on all the games at once would have a similar term.

Why Play the Grand Salami Instead of Betting Over/Unders?

There’s no set answer for why you should play the Grand Salami instead of just betting over/unders; however, if you have strong feelings about multiple games on the schedule, it might be more efficient (and save you some vig) to just bet on all of them at once.

If you only feel confident about one or two, sticking to over/unders makes more sense. Again, although a big part of the allure of the Grand Salami is how much fun it is — fun that you can’t have just betting on boring old over/unders.

Why Bet on Grand Salamis Online

The Grand Salami is one of the most fun sports bets you can possibly make. There’s a thrill that comes with having action on every single game on the day’s slate that’s hard to match.

Grand Salamis also have tight odds, so it’s not a long-shot bet. You can wager on these for quite a while without suffering any major swings.

That being said, it’s important to note what Grand Salamis aren’t good for; namely, turning a massive profit. You won’t find professional handicappers making these bets, because the value’s simply not there.

At the end of the day, the Grand Salami is a just-for-fun bet — but man, is it fun.

It’s possibly the best way to liven up an otherwise run-of-the-mill day during the long MLB and NHL seasons. Want to find a reason to become truly invested in a Diamondbacks-Rockies game in late August? Having them as part of your Grand Salami will do it.

If you want something that’s higher variance — but with potentially much higher paydays — we recommend going with a parlay. Those can also stack quite a bit of action, but the payouts can be enormous.

You shouldn’t expect to come out very far ahead from your Grand Salami wagers, but you shouldn’t lose your shirt, either. It’s basically the sports betting equivalent of feeding the penny slots all night long.

Why is MyStake the Best Site for Grand Salami Betting

While all of the sites on our list have great Grand Salami action, if we had to pick just one to get started, it would be MyStake. Here’s why:

  • Incredible selection of games: frustrated by the fact that you can only make one Grand Salami bet per day? Don’t be — at MyStake, they accept bets on games worldwide, so you can bet on American, Japanese, and Korean Grand Salamis if you want to (and more!)
  • Extremely user-friendly: one of the things that intimidates newer bettors is how complicated making a wager can be. That’s not the case at MyStake, as their interactive bet slip is very intuitive, and there are plenty of help features to explain anything you don’t understand
  • Tons of promotions: like most sportsbooks, MyStake has a welcome bonus for new players, but they don’t stop there. You can also get additional bonuses for using cryptocurrency, odds boosts on many games, and all sorts of free bets

MyStake is fantastic, especially for beginners, but no sportsbook is perfect for everyone.

If you don’t like the site, move on to the next one on the list until you find the sportsbook that suits you (and, as you’ll soon see, most sharp bettors maintain accounts at multiple sportsbooks anyway).

Tips for Grand Salami Betting

Grand Salami bets are, by their very nature, some of the most volatile you’ll find anywhere. That doesn’t mean there aren’t certain ways to give yourself an edge, though, and we’ll cover some of our favorites below.

1. Shop for the Best Lines

It’s very important to open and maintain accounts at multiple sportsbooks. This allows you to shop for the best possible line on each Grand Salami bet rather than just accepting what the first book you see gives you.

Most bookies will usually be fairly close in their totals, but sometimes you’ll find an outlier that’s several points off the others. It may not seem like much, but a few points here and there could make the difference between winning and losing.

In fact, some successful sports bettors make money by doing nothing more than line shopping — the concept is that powerful.

2. Take Advantage of Deposit Bonuses

Sportsbooks stay in business because they take a vig, a little free money that players throw their way as a cost of doing business.

So why not take a little vig of your own?

You can do it, in the form of deposit bonuses. This strategy won’t last forever, but by using your deposit bonuses intelligently, you can get a little extra boost on some of your first Grand Salami bets, giving you a better shot of coming ahead and building your bankroll.

At the very least, they can stop you from losing your money — and that’s a win in and of itself.

3. Don’t Be Lazy

To truly succeed with a Grand Salami bet, you need to take the time to handicap every single game on the schedule. That’s what Vegas is doing, and if you don’t do likewise, they’ll have quite the advantage over you.

You don’t have to spend much time on every game, but a little bit of due diligence (what’s the weather like? who’s injured? etc.) will go a long way.

Of course, if you’re just betting for fun, you don’t need to do this. But don’t be surprised to discover that you don’t get paid when you don’t do the work.

Grand Salami Betting: Are You Ready for the Big One?

If you’re looking for a fun way to branch out in sports betting, the Grand Salami is the way. It’s one of the most exciting bets in sports, and unlike many other “fun” bets, you have a great shot at hitting it.

Currently, MyStake is the best sportsbook to try your hand at the Grand Salami, but the list above includes several other excellent options. You can’t go wrong with this bet — even when you lose, you usually have a great time.

You might find other bets with a better return or higher payouts, but for sheer madcap gambling fun, the Grand Salami has truly earned its nickname.
