While the New York Jets are focused on completing a trade for Aaron Rodgers, the team still has to worry about some of its current players. That includes former first-round pick Quinnen Williams, who is due for a massive contract extension. The Jets have already signed the 25-year-old’s brother, Quincy, to a three-year deal, but have yet to lock up the 2022 First-Team All-Pro to a long-term deal of his own.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Williams is looking to get paid, but within reason. He’s not looking for Aaron Donald money, as the Los Angeles Rams star reset the market with a contract worth $31.7 million, but Williams “isn’t thought to be seeking that kind of money” and is likely targeting the $23 million to $25 million-a-year range, Cimini reports.
That is in line with the deals that Darron Payne ($22.5 million average per year) and Jefferey Simmons (23.5 million APY) signed with the Washington Commanders and Tennessee Titans, respectively. Williams will likely fit into that range if/when the Jets decided to pay him. In the meantime, Williams will not report for the start of New York’s offseason program come Monday, and that shouldn’t come as a surprise. He publicly vowed to do as much at the end of last season, when he made his demands for a new contract clear.

Hopefully this does not become a big training camp story https://t.co/LHoTRBo0Aj

Daron Payne is now getting 22.5 million per year. (No. 3 highest paid DT)
Quinnen Williams is in final year of contract.
25 million?
Would be No. 2 on the list behind Aaron Donald. #BuiltByBama https://t.co/h1VZ7bnRsW

“Williams is probably targeting the $23-$25 mil per year range.”
It’s very rare to find an elite Interior Pass Rusher.
Even more rare when said Elite Interior Pass rusher is also an elite run defender.
Rarer still when he’s a team leader, too.
Conclusion: Pay the man. #Jets https://t.co/OcqiqQVHxv

Unless it saves money, I could see it next off season. Q is real deal. He makes other guys better.
