Katy Perry is looking back on her music career and sharing the lessons she’s learned. The ‘Roar’ singer even shed some light on a spray tan saga that she encountered more than a decade ago when she made her ‘California Gurls’ music video.

Perry recorded the lead single ‘California Gurls’ for her 2010 studio album, ‘Teenage Dream’. The colorful, upbeat song, which featured Gummy Bears with an attitude, was done in collaboration with Snoop Dogg.

A word for those who spray tan

Perry said she spent so much extra money on correcting a bad spray tan for the music video that she doesn’t care to admit how much, according to a ‘Life in Looks’ video shared by Vogue.

The singer offered some sound advice to fans who might be thinking about getting a fake tan.

“Kids,” Perry said, “just a little tip: fake tans, night before.”

In the video, the Grammy Award nominee lamented on early learning experiences in her career, specifically the Spray Tan incident. Perry had to spend a lot of extra money on color-grading her bad spray tan.

“Funny story behind this is that I look super tan here, right?” the 38-year-old singer said in the video. “Rarely do I get spray tans, and typically you’re supposed to get them the night before. Well, I just didn’t have time. So, I got them the day of my music video.”

“When you get a tan the morning of your music video,” Perry continued, “your color changes gradually throughout the day. So, I just kept on getting oranger and oranger and oranger.”
