Chepstow betting tips

3.10: Don Herbager (to place) 9/4 to win 7/1

Hard not to fancy the Robbie Llewellyn-trained horse who came a close second last time out and was favourite at time of writing.

He’s given plenty of weight from his rivals on Thursday afternoon but this is a going to be a tough contest over an extended 3m6f.

Don Herbager is one of the only seven runners to have won over this distance and it’s going to be even tougher on soft ground.

But this Venetia Williams-trained horse is often there at the finish in these testing trips and drops in class in the colours of the Hereford Racing Club.

Sedgefield betting tips

3.25: The Questioner 5/4 (NAP)

Had just his second run over fences last time out and came a respectable third, four lengths off Bretney at Bangor in February.

But that was despite the vet reporting the gelding had lost a shoe.

Clearly has plenty of staying power and has finished in the top three on all his runs contested 3m and over (seven under rules and one point).

Only up 1lb for that third and still has his chances should he deal with the soft ground – but there shouldn’t be an issue with that considering he’s won on soft before.

Ludlow racing tips

3.00: Cartonne 9/4 (NB)

A great price for a Donald McCain-trained horse that’s shown real promise over fences, making it 2-2 chasing having seen off Diamond State on his last run and was eased off having gone seven lengths ahead.

Although he was a bit keen he went clear and retained that lead throughout and looks to be much better over fences than over hurdles.

Though he did bump into a couple when he placed second on four occasions, including Netywell, Parisencore and Not What It Seems.

Fire Dancer appears to be the leading fancy in the Rich Ricci colours and there’s clearly hope for this horse as he was entered into a Class 2 Novice Chase at Cheltenham in January, but was subsequently pulled up.

The horse that won that race was Stage Star who went on to win the Turners’ Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham Festival last week.

However, on his British debut barely beat Striking Out and probably worth taking on as he gives the tip 7lb.
