Laois athlete excels in the green of Ireland at World Sports Games in Italy

Emo Rath A.C. Athlete Chloe Keenan travelled in a ten athlete Leinster contingent to Forli in Italy recently to compete in the World Sports Games. The event commenced with a parade through the seaside town of Cervia. This was a colourful fanfare with each country proudly exhibiting their national flags, culminating with a gathering of the athletes in the local square for speeches and music.

The weather in Forli was perfect for Track and Field competition. Chloe competed in the long jump and as a member of the 4 x 400m relay team. First up was the long jump, Chloe put in an excellent performance to finish second, beaten by the narrowest of margins (1 cm) by the Austrian athlete, with the French athlete third. Next day Chloe competed on the 4 x 400m team, where she ran the second leg. Chloe ran an excellent race holding her own in the race and helping her team to finish in second place.

This was a great experience for Chloe and a great way to bring the curtain down on her 2023 Track and Field competition, which saw her win two National titles as well as several Regional titles. Chloe will now buckle down for the winter and concentrate on the hard work required in advance of the Indoor competition in early 2024.

The club has said it’s very proud of Chloe’s performances and the performances of all its athletes over the year, where the Club continues to mix it with the best clubs in the country.
