For today’s Horse Racing Tips, our analyst James Boyle looks at the flat racing meetings at Chelmsford and Newcastle with three selections now online.

15:25 Chelmsford – Lucky Man – 1pt @ 10/1

Lucky Man is yet to hit his top form this season but was a three-time winner in 2022 and started off the year on a tough mark. It has since come down to a pound below last September’s York success and that could be enough to put him back in with a major chance of winning again.

His last two efforts have been poor but came in valuable handicaps and the most recent was the Stewards’ Cup on horrible ground. The first-time visor worn there is discarded and back on the All-Weather, on which he is 3-9 with a further four places, he may be happier. 9/1+ is a fair price.

18:45 Newcastle – Akmaam – 1pt @ 12/1

I wonder whether Akmaam could do better over a stiff 7f. He hasn’t quite got home at a mile on recent starts when put into the race early enough to have a chance and arrives on the back of a very good effort at the Curragh when only beaten a length into fourth in a big field.

He came there to hold every chance entering the final furlong and whilst he didn’t exactly fold, he couldn’t maintain his gallop. That was his first outing for almost a couple of months and he’s entitled to sharpen up for it. His last All-Weather run yielded a win and I think he’ll run a big race.

19:15 Newcastle – Conquistador – 1pt @ 13/2

Conquistador has a fine record on the artificial surfaces, his form reading 2-1-1. He’s just a pound above his sole handicap attempt in this code and that led to him defeating a 90-rated Kerdos at Lingfield. I rate that horse highly and he’s now rated 101, albeit thanks to form over 5f.

Things haven’t exactly gone to plan for the selection since his excellent run at Royal Ascot but excuses are in place for his Newmarket flop and at Windsor last time, he didn’t seem in love with the track. This C&D should suit, Billy Loughnane removes 3lbs and I doubt we’ve seen the best of him.
