Back Me

2 Hearcomesthestar (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is a well bred filly who looks like she has good talent. John Moloney trained filly that debuted over this trip when wide no cover throughout but she trucked in the run and once Olly pushed the button, away she went and she was strong to the line in winning, clocking good late splits. Has that run under the belt, should be strong at the end…hard to beat.

Danger

3 Talk Of Dakota (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) wil jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down. She was a notable drifter in betting when debuting on the home deck at Cranbourne but with a decent run on speed, she went through her gears like a nice horse to win well. Is bred to appreciate further, but should be at 1000m, and with her on speed pattern, she’ll give herself every chance.

Long Shot

10 Coeur Volante (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is a daughter of Proisir on debut for Michael Moroney. This girl had a recent jumpout at Flemington and to my eye, moved pretty well late when third. Bred to appreciate further, but the Proisir progeny have been flying the last 12 months and these off season Sandown meetings have been a good platform for Moroney first starters, so watch the market.

Race 2. (12:25) Schweppes (Bm78) 1000m

4 End Journey (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is 2/2 to start her career and I think she can make it 3/3 here. Strong debut winner at Cranbourne before proving that was no fluke with a dominant all the way win here three weeks ago at the trip, showing versatility given she led there but on debut opted for cover. Only has to hold her form and she’ll take beating once again.

Danger

8 Tanto (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) has been up a little while but is holding her form pretty well. Far from disgraced two back in the VOBIS Gold Dash behind She Dances. She then raced here again and tried her guts out but couldn’t quite get there when second to impressive winner End Journey. Generally around the mark and that should be the case here. Definite chance.

Long Shot

3 Berry Bubbly (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is racing well for Griffiths/De Kock and will give a sight. She has won her past two, leading throughout each time. Two back was over 1000m at Ballarat before going to 1100m at Sale where sustained speed come to the fore. Like her back to 1000m is ideal, likely lands on speed and will give cheek at a price.

Race 3. (13:00) Evergreen Turf (Bm78) 1600m

Back Me

2 Lacrima (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) looks hard to beat up in trip for Michael Hickmott. She was big odds when racing over 1400m at Flemington and she was one of the eye catchers of the meeting, closing off really well late behind in form mare Party For One. Has a good second up record, good upside, and can settle much closer in the run IMO. She’ll do me in a competitive race.

Danger

5 Rivaport (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is a good mare that deserves another look. Let down like a nice mare to win two back here before going to Geelong on Good Friday where she was on the plain side behind Fancylanski, seemingly struggling on the shifty ground. Firmer footing, hopefully, and maps to get a sweet run in transit. She can bounce back big time.

Long Shot

6 Frigid (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is sneaky flying for John Leek Jr. Thought she did more than enough fresh here before going to the Warrnambool Carnival and was good from the back without threatening behind Our August Rose. Third up and hard fit now…1600m is a query but the way she has worked home in both runs back, it should be fine.

Race 4. (13:35) Barry J Brennan Memorial-Bm78 1300m

Back Me

I want to give 2 Do Ya Punk (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) another chance. He was a real eye catcher fresh against the pattern at Bendigo before going to Sandown where I thought he was a good thing but the late market push against him suggested he’d struggle and that he did, running last behind Foxicon. Like him up to 1300m and hard fit, I am not dismissing him.

Danger

8 Hello Broadcast (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) can be hit and miss at times but he is a horse who is certainly capable when in the mood. He was specked at odds when racing a few weeks back at Sandown and those that took the big odds probably teared up that ticket given he was struggling out the back but picked up and launched late to just miss out on picking up Pintoff. Off that effort, he can take this out.

Long Shot

15 Sig Positano (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) has a very good second up record and is a big improver. He resumed three weeks ago at Sandown where he got back off the speed and while he was never a threat, I didn’t mind the way he found the line late in the piece, beaten just over four lengths by Chassis. Fitter, likes wet ground and with natural improvement, he’s dangerous.

Race 5. (14:10) Lamaro’s Hotel Hcp 1600m

Back Me

1 Dashing (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) has been up a while but is seemingly holding his form really well and I don’t see coming back to 1600m being an issue. Should have won the Mornington Guineas two back but was slaughtered by Meech. Bates jumped on at Sandown three weeks ago over 1800m and with a positive ride, got going early and was strong to the line in winning. Back to the mile is no issue and is hard to beat.

Danger

2 Elkington Road (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is a smart three year old for Michael Moroney that I think is best suited at the mile. He ran three weeks ago at Sandown over 1800m and I thought found the line well enough in a race where the shape wasn’t to his liking behind Dashing. Back in trip is a big tick for him and he can settle much closer in the run. Dangerous.

Long Shot

6 Brung King (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is on the quick back up after winning impressively on Sunday here, giving them a start and a beating in a sharp display. That is two runs on the bounce at 1400m and is racing like the mile will suit. Tricky draw to overcome, but is heading in the right direction. Definite winning chance with a drag into the race.

Race 6. (14:45) Bel Esprit Stakes 1000m

Back Me

7 Katsu (Bet Now: $1.90) is clearly the one to beat. Grahame Begg has a good one on his hands here. He was an arrogant winner fresh at Sale before going here where he probably wasn’t 100% happy on the wet track but class came to the fore and he was too good. Back on a firmer deck for this, he seems a sharp short course animal…really keen on his chances.

Danger

4 Taunting (Bet Now: $6.00) is dangerous with his best. Michael Hickmott trained gelding that is a few weeks between runs since contesting the Wangoom at Warrnambool where he struggled to let down on the bog ground behind Outlaws Revenge, beaten just over two lengths in a solid effort. Back on firmer footing and back in trip, I think he commands some level of respect.

Long Shot

1 Pintoff (Bet Now: $15.00) is dangerous with his best and I reckon Carly Cook has him somewhere near that. He had his first run for Cook three weeks ago here, letting down hard from off the speed and showed good change up speed. He was out of petrol tickets late but had enough in hand. He does tend to race best with fresh legs and he is borderline Stakes class when right.

Race 7. (15:25) Ive (Bm84) 1400m

Back Me

15 Danaustar (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) should land on the bunny and prove hard to run down for boom WA apprentice Luke Campbell. I am a big fan of this kid and he is an apprentice that is more than happy to roll on speed on a horse, which is perfect for this horse. He was a dominant winner at Terang two back before going to the Warrnambool Carnival where he attempted to lead throughout but just struggled late on the bog when third to Secret Plan. Back on firmer footing, gets control on speed, hard to run down.

Danger

7 Pascero (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for the Busuttin/Young camp. Both runs back have come here, being luckless fresh before a closing second to Chassis three weeks ago, closing off nicely from the back. Hard fit now, can settle closer in the run and gets a very much in form Dan Beasley to steer. He has a bit going for him.

Long Shot

6 He’s Our Bonneval (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) has a good second up record and gets a jockey upgrade to run a positive race. He resumed in the Chassis race from three weeks back. Froggy had cover throughout on him and tried hard to wind up, but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to the Maher/Eustace mare. If he can settle closer in the run and be within range, he’s good enough to take this out.

Race 8. (16:05) Marshall White (Bm84) 1600m

Imagine what you could be buying instead.

Back Me

3 Green Fly (Bet Now: $7.00) is unbeaten second up and off the return, he should take beating. He was a noted drifter in betting a fortnight back at Flemington when first up over 1400m but despite the market push against, I thought he ran really well, closing off nicely behind King Magnus, beaten just under two lengths. Has the run under the belt, can settle closer, takes beating.

Danger

5 French Emperor (Bet Now: $4.80) looks ready to win and can certainly take this out. He was a drifter in betting a fortnight back as the support came for Altivo, who was far too good for them, but I did like the way this guy kept on, running second. He was first up there, so he should have good room for improvement and if that is the case, he’ll take beating.

Long Shot

6 Lucky Decision (Bet Now: $23.00) should appreciate firmer footing. Peter Moody trained gelding that struggled on the shifty ground at Sandown a few weeks back, settling off the speed and failed to come on, finishing tailed off last behind Gunstock. Much better set up this time around and off prior form, it certainly reads well enough for this.

Race 9. (16:40) Catanach’s Jewellers (Bm100) 1800m

Back Me

It’s going to take a tough nut to get past 3 Not Usual Glorious (Bet Now: $20.00) and he seems an each way safe play in the get out. He has been freshened up since the Warrnambool Cup where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a very strong kick but was run down late by Rolls. I reckon that trip was a bridge too far so back to 1800m, a soft lead on the cards, he’ll take running down.

Danger

2 Gunstock (Bet Now: $2.70) is a beauty for Price/Kent and is one of the key chances. He was kept very safe in betting when resuming here three weeks ago, letting down late on the wet ground and surged the final few strides to nab Keats near the peg. He does seem to thrive on wet ground and the forecast for later in the week is music to his ears. Hard to beat.

Long Shot

13 Witchatar Star (Bet Now: $81.00) should appreciate a rise in trip. He ran behind White Marlin in the Easter Cup two back before coming back to the mile three weeks back and just found them a bit sharp behind Gunstock. Might want one more and 2000m+, but the depth here, as a whole, isn’t strong, so I think for wider exotics, I can certainly entertain him.
