State Government announces free public transport for Telethon Family Festival

  • Free, family friendly street-festival to take
over Wellington Street during Telethon Weekend
  • Public transport will be free to get people to
    and from the event
  • State Government will provide traffic management support

The State Government has
thrown its support behind the Telethon Family Festival in the Perth CBD,
announcing free public transport will be provided across the network to get
people to and from the event.

This year marks the
second time the Telethon Family Festival has been hosted in the CBD, with the
inaugural event last year delivering a carnival-like atmosphere to Wellington
Street.

This year’s event is
being held in the Perth CBD on Sunday, October 22, between 10am and 4pm.

As part of the
festival, Wellington Street will be closed between Elder Street and William
Street with live music, roving entertainment, community
performances, food trucks and plenty of other entertainment for families to
enjoy.

The State Government,
through Main Roads, will also be providing traffic management on the day, in
coordination with the City of Perth.

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Telethon is synonymous
with Western Australia, and the Telethon Family Festival has become a key part
of the celebration.

“The Telethon Family
Festival was a major success last year, and the State Government wants to see
this celebration continue to grow, which is why we are once again providing
free public transport across the network.

“Mark down 22 October in
your diary, make the most of the free public transport on the day and come join
in the festivities at the Telethon Family Festival.”

Comments attributed to
Lands Minister John Carey:

“Telethon is a WA icon – one of the great institutions of
this State – ensuring some of the most sick, vulnerable and disadvantaged
children in our community get the support they need.

“It’s brilliant to have Telethon come into the heart of the
Perth CBD, and have Yagan Square host a major local festival with plenty of
events and performance for families.”
