A boys’ basketball coach affiliated with Farmington High School was terminated last week amid reports of alleged sexual assaults involving him and some players, district and law enforcement officials told The Detroit News.

In a statement early Tuesday, district officials said after the high school received an “allegation of potential improper conduct” between the coach and several players, it immediately terminated the man and issued a “no trespass notice,” banning him from all district facilities and events, said Diane Bauman, director of the district’s community relations and pupil accounting.

The coach, who was not named, had not been an employee, according to the district.

“The case has been turned over to law enforcement while our administrative team is conducting an internal investigation,” Bauman wrote. “Social emotional support is available at FHS for any student that would like support.”

The district did not detail the nature nor the location of the alleged incidents, but said news of the termination was shared with the high school’s community last week.

Fox 2 reported Monday the alleged incidents with youths were at the coach’s home in Detroit.

Reached Tuesday, the Detroit Police Department noted a recent investigation revealed several allegations of “sexual assaults involving minors perpetrated in the city of Detroit,” officials said.

“Since receiving this information, investigators assigned to the Special Victims Unit have conducted a number of forensic interviews and conducted careful analysis of physical evidence,” a department official said. “The results of the department’s investigation and any other relevant information will be turned over to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office so that an appropriate charging decision can be rendered.”
