I’m originally from Sydney, Australia and have been living in Hong Kong for five years. My father is Singaporean and my mother is Australian, so I grew up influenced by both cultures. I’ve always said I’m not a fussy eater as long as it’s good.
To start, once a week I like going to Mon Kee Café (142 Jaffe Road, Wan Chai. Tel: 2528 2927) for their BBQ pork, prawn and scrambled egg on rice for lunch. I found this place years ago and have been a huge fan ever since. I even take visitors there.
Lo Come Jian Bing (Shop A2B, 15-17 Ngan Mok Street, Tin Hau. Tel: 3594 6669) is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that I love. The first time I tried one of their Peking duck and BBQ pork pancakes (jian bing), I knew my life was changed forever. Not to mention it’s massive.
Twelve Flavours (various branches including Shop 2-4, Pearl Court, 13 Belcher’s Street, Kennedy Town. Tel: 6790 1070) is a favourite place with friends. I didn’t know dry hotpot was a thing but its combination of flavours and balance of spices gets you sweating but doesn’t stop you from eating. And the Amazing Fried Rice on their menu is actually amazing.

I also love Zuma (Shop 501-503, The Landmark, 15 Queen’s Road Central. Tel: 3657 6388) for a long boozy brunch or celebrations. The food has always been consistently exceptional and the service and atmosphere is ideal for a long lunch or celebratory dinner.
My visitor “must eats” list includes Mak’s Noodle (various locations including 77 Wellington Street, Central. Tel: 2854 3810) for wonton noodles, Tim Ho Wan (various locations including 9-11 Fuk Wing Street, Sham Shui Po. Tel: 2788 1226) for dim sum, Tai Cheong Bakery (various locations including 35 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central. The barbecue pork, beef short rib and prawn toast are always on point. Their cocktails and friendly staff are also the perfect launch pad for a good night out with great food and fun vibe.
Other than a good meat pie from Tai Tai Pies (Great Food Hall, LG1/F, Pacific Place, Admiralty. Tel: 2918 9986), the most Australian thing I would eat is a smashed avocado and salmon toast with scrambled eggs.
My go-to place is Fineprint (various locations including G/F, 8-12 South Lane, Shek Tong Tsui. Tel: 5722 20166). My dog is a huge fan of their banana muffins.
A favourite food destination is Singapore. My husband and I usually drop our bags at the hotel and jump in a taxi to Lau Pa Sat (18 Raffles Quay, Singapore. Tel: +65 6220 2136) for some late night satay, char kway teow and beers.
We go with friends, get a couple of huge crabs, cereal prawns and mee goreng [stir-fried noodles] with jugs of beer, and always leave full and happy.
