Northeast tabs Kevin Gandy as their next Head Football Coach

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – The Northeast Lauderdale Trojans officially introduced Kevin Gandy as their next Head Football Coach at an introductory press conference on Monday.

The hire is still pending the School Board’s approval, but that is expected to be taken care of by the end of the week.

Gandy brings close to 20 years of coaching experience to Northeast, as he’s been around the game of football for almost his entire life.

He played High School Football at Wayne County, before playing collegiately at Alcorn State University.

After his collegiate career, Gandy started coaching at his alma mater, where he spent time as an Offensive and Defensive Coordinator.

After his time at Wayne County, he moved to Meridian High, where he was an Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator.

Throughout the interview and hiring process, Gandy says he never felt more at home and more comfortable with a decision, like this one.

“During the interview process man, it was like I was at home. I just felt like it was home. I never felt more sure about a job than this one,” Gandy said.

Gandy adds he knows there’s work to be done, in order to succeed at Northeast, but he’s excited about the road ahead.

“I know we got a tough road ahead of us, but I want to get these guys to be prepared mentally and physically for this game. I’m excited like this. I can’t explain the excitement that I feel right now. I know this is where I need to be and I can’t wait for Friday nights.”

The School Board’s approval of the hire is expected to take place on Friday, March 1.
