The two-time Charles Schwab Cup winner recorded 20 titles on the PGA TOUR, including three U.S. Open Championship victories.

Irwin began his prolific professional golf career in 1968. He captured his first PGA TOUR title in 1971 and the first of his three U.S. Open wins in 1974 at Winged Foot Golf Club. OZZIE SMITH

The 13-time Gold Glove Award winner redefined the position in his nearly two decades of work with the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals, setting major league records for assists, double plays and total chances.

Smith helped lead the Cards to three National League pennants and one World Series title. He retired in 1996, the same year the Cardinals retired his number. Smith was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2002.

A mainstay on Team Canada, Pronger won Olympic gold medals at the 2002 and 2010 Winter Olympics and is a member of the exclusive Triple Gold Club. His uniform No. 44 was retired by the St. Louis Blues in 2022.

CRAIG BERUBE

Berube was a long-time NHL player with over 1,000 games between 1986-2004 and more than 3,000 penalty minutes (one of only three players in NHL history). Since the end of his playing career, he served as an American Hockey League (AHL) assistant coach, AHL head coach, NHL assistant coach and NHL head coach. SECOND-YEAR CHARITY INITIATIVE CONTINUES TO EXPAND THE TOURNAMENT’S PHILANTHROPIC IMPACT

Tournament officials announced today the details surrounding the second annual RSM Charity Putting Challenge. The special event, which debuted during last year’s tournament week, provides an opportunity for The Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson to expand its philanthropic impact. To that end, the 2023 RSM Putting Challenge will benefit nine local St. Louis charitable organizations.

“The inaugural RSM Charity Putting Challenge was a tremendous success in 2022,” said Nick Ragone, Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, Ascension. “One of the primary goals of the Ascension Charity Classic is to make it the most charitable PGA TOUR Champions event. With that in mind, the RSM Putting Challenge is a perfect example of how the tournament continues to find ways to expand our ability to help more wonderful charities across St. Louis.”

Each charitable organization will be selected by a participating sponsor and receive an investment of $10,000 on behalf of their supporting benefactor.

The nine RSM Charity Putting Challenge teams will each consist of one PGA TOUR Champions professional, one charity representative, and one junior/youth player associated with the charity competitor. The teams will compete in a scramble-format putting match over a specially designed nine-hole miniature golf course. The team with the lowest gross score will take home an additional $7,000 for that team’s charity. The second-place charity will receive a $4,500 bonus, and third place will take home an extra $2,500.

The RSM Putting Challenge is September 5, 2023, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the putting green at Norwood Hills.

“One of our core values at RSM is stewardship and giving back to the communities where our people live and work globally is ingrained in our culture. Through The RSM Classic, in which our charity putting concept originated, we’ve donated more than $36 million to charities that support children and families in need. We are proud to continue our partnership with Ascension and other great Saint Louis-based companies on this beloved tradition and support our local community here in Missouri.” – Matt Harvey, RSM partner and Saint Louis office leader.

Area charities with teams committed to participate currently are: Marygrove, Good Shepherd Children & Family Services, Operation Food Search, Family Forward, Saint Louis Counseling, Little Bit Foundation, and Lafayette Industries. The remaining charities will be announced prior to the event.

Tickets for the 2023 Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson are on sale. The tournament is open to spectators from Thursday (September 7) to Sunday (September 10) and ticket prices start at $20. Goosen, 54, will be making his second start at this year’s Ascension Charity Classic. The South African finished T54 in 2021 and his tournament scoring average is 71.67. The two-time U.S. Open Champion has collected two PGA TOUR Champions wins since joining the TOUR in 2019. He grabbed his first title and first senior major in just his 12th start at the SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. He picked up his second win last year at the Hoag Classic. This season, Goosen finished T3 in March at The Galleri Classic and T6 at the U.S. Senior Open Championship in July, in addition to three other top-10 finishes. Goosen is currently ranked No. 20 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.

Cejka, 52, grew his collection of senior major titles at The Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex in July, bringing his PGA TOUR Champions win total to three. The German’s first two wins came in 2020 at the Regions Tradition, in a playoff over Steve Stricker, and at the 2020 Senior PGA Championship. This will be Cejka’s second start at the Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson, who finished T23 in 2021. Cejka is currently No. 9 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, has nine top-10 finishes this season and has totaled $4,442,337 in career PGA TOUR Champions earnings. In addition to his PGA TOUR Champions accomplishments, Cejka earned one victory on the PGA TOUR in 2014 at the Puerto Rico Open.

Clarke, 54, has collected four PGA TOUR Champions wins, including his most recent at The Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex in 2022. Clarke’s first two senior titles came back-to-back at the 2020 TimberTech Championship and 2021 Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. Clarke, a member of five Ryder Cup teams himself, served as European Captain in 2016. The Northern Irishman has 20 top-10 finishes in his 96 PGA TOUR Champions starts and is currently ranked No. 19 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings on strength of five top-10 finishes. During his time on the PGA TOUR, Clarke collected three wins, most notably the 2011 Open Championship at Royal St. George’s Golf Club. This year will be Clarke’s third start at the Ascension Charity Classic, with his best finish being T24 in 2022. Clarke has a 71.55 scoring average at Norwood Hills Country Club and $20,760 in tournament earnings.

Ames, 59, is in the midst of his most successful season of professional golf to date. After breaking his three-year win drought in February when he won the Trophy Hassan II, Ames has collected three more victories at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic in May, the Principal Charity Classic in June, and the Boeing Classic last week, bringing his 2023 victory count to four, one behind this season’s win total leader Steve Stricker who has five. Ames is currently ranked No. 3 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings. This will be the Canadian’s third start at the Ascension Charity Classic, having finished T39 in 2021 and T41 in 2022. His scoring average at Norwood Hills is 70.67 and he has totaled $17,400 in tournament earnings. In addition to his victories, Ames’s PGA TOUR Champions resume includes three runner-up finishes, five third-place outings and 51 top-10 efforts across his 188 starts since joining the TOUR in 2014.

O’Neal, 50, made his PGA TOUR Champions debut at last year’s Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson with a T33 finish. O’Neal’s professional golf journey has included multiple tours over recent decades, racking up nine PGA TOUR starts, 75-plus Korn Ferry Tour starts and scores of titles, including three victories on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica. Nine of his championships came on the Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) Tour, the newly-prominent circuit that has become a force in driving greater diversity in the sport by providing opportunities to African Americans from HBCUs and other underrepresented golfers to compete and win at the highest level of professional golf, career development and mentoring sessions. The Georgia native earned his PGA TOUR Champions membership with a T-3 finish at the final stage of the 2023 PGA TOUR Champions Qualifying Tournament last December. Since then, O’Neal has earned five top-25 finishes, including his first top-10 outing at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic in May and his best PGA TOUR Champions finish last week where he finished T9 at the Boeing Classic. O’Neal is currently ranked No. 44 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.

The Ascension Charity Classic will be one of the premier Regular Season events on the PGA TOUR Champions in 2023, which will give way to the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, a season-ending, three-tournament series used to determine the TOUR’s season-long champion.

Third annual Legends fundraiser kicks off 2023 tournament events for the Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson

The Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson announced today that Pro Football Hall of Fame member Isaac Bruce and former All-Pro St. Louis Rams wide receiver Torry Holt will headline the tournament’s third annual Legends Breakfast presented by Centene and Missouri Division of Tourism at Norwood Hills Country Club on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

This unique and inspiring event brings together sports legends to benefit the tournament’s primary charities, including Marygrove, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis, and Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis.

The 2023 Legends Breakfast will showcase Bruce and Holt sharing stories from their playing days with the St. Louis Rams as members of the “Greatest Show on Turf”, which included three divisional titles, two NFC Championships and the Lombardi trophy as Super Bowl XXXIV champions.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Isaac and Torry as this year’s featured legends,” said Nick Ragone, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing & Communications Officer for Ascension. “They are both committed to giving back and making a real difference for their communities and youth in need which perfectly aligns with our tournament goals.”

Tickets for the Legends Breakfast can be purchased by emailing [email protected] or by calling the tournament office at 314.938.2828. Breakfast attendance will be limited to the purchase of tables of 10.

Bruce played 14 seasons with the St. Louis Rams before signing with the San Francisco 49ers to play two final seasons. During his 16 NFL seasons, Bruce was considered one of the best receivers in the National Football League. He was a world-class route-runner, very elusive and highly intelligent with great hands and a tremendous overall threat. He was the first of three second-round draft selections (33rd overall) by the Rams in the 1994 NFL Draft.

When he retired, Bruce was No. 2 on the NFL’s all-time receiving yards list behind Jerry Rice, No. 5 on the NFL’s all-time receptions list (1024 catches), and No. 9 on the NFL’s all-time receiving touchdowns list. He had more than 1,000 career receptions and more than 15,000 career receiving yards. His #80 jersey was retired by the Rams in 2010 and he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.

Bruce was a four-time Pro Bowl selection, including three consecutive (1999-2001). Bruce was also the 1995 and 1996 recipient of Daniel F. Reeves Memorial Award, given to Rams MVP, one of four players (DE Jack Youngblood 1975-76, RB Eric Dickerson 1983-84, and RB Marshall Faulk 1999-01) in team history to be honored with the award in back-to-back seasons. Bruce also holds three Rams’ single-season records, including most receiving yards (1,781), most receptions (119) and most consecutive 100-yard receiving games (six). In addition, he is the Rams’ career leader in receptions, receiving yards, 100-yard receiving games, 1,000-yard seasons, touchdown receptions, postseason receiving yards, and is the only player in team history with four 100-yard receiving games in the postseason.

Bruce launched the Isaac Bruce Foundation in 2006 which focuses on health, wellness, nutrition, fitness and education. Through the Foundation, he reaches out to youth and teaches them at an early age the importance of a healthy lifestyle with a focus on education.

Holt’s 13-year NFL career began in 1999 when he was selected by the St. Louis Rams as the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft. Holt played for 10 seasons with the Rams. He was named Rams Rookie of the Year in 1999 and went on that season to help lead the team to victory in Super Bowl XXXIV. Holt is the only player in NFL history to record 1,300 or more yards in six consecutive seasons. He played in seven NFL Pro Bowls, including five straight from 2003 to 2007. He is ranked among the Top Ten players in receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and receptions, and finished in the Top Ten of those categories from 2003 to 2007. Additionally, he led the NFL in receptions in 2003 and receiving yards in 2000 and 2003. Upon his retirement from the National Football League, Holt ranked 10th in league history with 12,382 yards and 13th with 920 receptions.

Today, Holt is a successful business entrepreneur in his home state of North Carolina and is committed to giving back to the local community, and to the causes he so passionately supports. Together with his brother Terrence, he runs Holt Brothers Construction, a growing company that serves as an inspiring example of leadership for minority-owned enterprises.

Torry Holt is the president of the Holt Brothers Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to supporting children who have a parent or guardian with cancer. During Holt’s childhood, his mother, Ojetta, was diagnosed with lymphoma, which she courageously fought for 10 years. With his brother, they established a foundation in her honor, the Holt Brothers Foundation which helps fund programs serving kids in North Carolina and throughout the United States.

In addition, Holt serves his community through the YMCA of the Triangle, NC State University and various industry and minority business organizations. He is also actively involved with the NFL, specifically their NFL Legends Community which celebrates, educates, embraces, and connects all NFL legends with each other, their former teams, and the NFL.

The Ascension Charity Classic has established a legacy of giving in St. Louis and beyond. In 2020, despite not hosting a tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ascension Charity Classic donated $225,000 in support of North St. Louis County communities, bringing the official PGA TOUR Champions event’s total charitable donations since its inception to more than $2.5 million.

The 2023 Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson will be held the week of September 5–10, at Norwood Hills Country Club. Tickets are now available for the third edition of the tournament by visiting ascensioncharityclassic.com/tickets/ticket-information.
