Dumba inked a one-year contract with the Coyotes in an announcement on Monday. Although terms of the deal were not disclosed by Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong, reports said the contract was worth $3.9 million.
“We are very pleased to have Matt join our organization,” Armstrong said in a statement.
“He is a talented, reliable, physical defenseman who competes hard every night and will contribute offensively. He is also a great leader who will add a veteran presence to our blue line. We are very excited to have him on our team this season.”
In 598 NHL regular season games, all with the Wild who drafted him 7th overall in 2012, Dumba had 79 goals and 157 assists in 236 points. He also had 399 career penalty minutes.
Dumba also scored 15 points in 49 NHL playoff games for the Wild, who were eliminated by Filipino-American Jason Robertson and the Dallas Stars in the last postseason games.
According to Dumba, he believed it was the best for him to grow as a player after he signed with the Coyotes.
Although he competes internationally for Canada, Dumba is one of four active NHL players of Filipino descent, alongside brothers Nicholas and Jason Robertson, who play for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars respectively, and Devin Shore, who last played for the Edmonton Oilers.
