The List: Canada Day goes country at free party

The abundant daylight on Canada Day always offers plenty of opportunity for summer fun and the Ice District downtown is putting on an outdoor party everyone can join in.

The event is free and starts at 2 p.m. with street performers, face painting, photo booths and games including pickleball, drop-in basketball and street hockey. Snacks and non-alcoholic refreshments will also be provided while adult beverages and food trucks will be on-site for those wanting more.

But the country-music lineup on the plaza’s mainstage is set to be the highlight. The show kicks off at 5 p.m. with Taylor-Rae, Calgary’s Nice Horse will be playing and Tim Hicks will close out the stage. The party wraps up at 10 p.m. giving patrons enough time to relocate to the river valley where the annual city fireworks are set to go off at 11 p.m.
