There are five Flat meetings across England and Scotland on Thursday, starting with the all-weather card at Newcastle (1.35-5.05pm).

After that it’s turf action all the way from Nottingham (1.50-5.20), Newmarket (2.00-5.30), Leicester (5.12-8.45) and Hamilton (6.00-9.00).

Thursday’s nap is a filly improving at a rate of knots for trainer George Boughey and she can thrive once more on her first visit to the local track at Newmarket.

Horse racing tips: Newmarket 4.55

Trainer George Boughey has handled a tough situation well this week after losing some promising horses in the wake of Royal Ascot when Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah decided to remove the likes of Asadna, who has been switched to fellow Newmarket trainer Alice Haynes.

Boughey remains one of the brightest young training talents in England and his calm assessment of that situation should stand him well. He holds a leading claim in this 1m handicap with WILD SIDE.

The Kodiac filly was much improved on her seasonal return over 6f at Pontefract in April, finishing second byu a head, and has won all three starts since.

She opened her account in May, winning a maiden at Yarmouth (7f, good) and handicap wins have since followed at Catterick (7f, good to firm) and Redcar (1m, good). The last of those came six days ago, when she fended off her two main market rivals in second and third with a bit to spare.

She carries a 6lb penalty now and has champion jockey William Buick taking over in the plate for the first time. This fast-improving three-year-old filly can take the next step in her stride.

Horse racing tips: Hamilton 6.00

After a couple of hints that her turn may well be looming, TAFSIR may get her first success on the board for Jim Goldie in this 1m 5f amateur jockeys’ handicap.

She tried everything from 6f to 1m 3f last year without success but has gradually found her niche this term since the focus was placed on her stamina.

She twice went close at Newcastle on the Tapeta over 1m 2f in early May and ran well again in turf starts at Ayr over the same trip afterwards. This month she came within three-quarters of a length of a breakout win at the same track upped to 1m 5f for the first time.

Clear of the third, she was only denied by a determined winner that day. With promising teenager Jack Nicholls taking off 5lb in the plate, this looks an excellent spot for the filly to get off the mark.

Horse racing tips: Nottingham 2.25

Julie Camacho’s WINTER CROWN caught the eye this month when finishing to excellent effect at Beverley (5f, good to firm).

A novice scorer over the minimum trip at Newcastle in February, she had previously kept good company in a pair of turf starts last year when in the care of Charlie Appleby.

She was second at Musselburgh and Chester in the spring having moved into handicaps and looked very much as though a return to 6f would be a plus for her in that latest effort at Beverley under this rider when they closed well to finish fourth.

From an unchanged mark the partnership should be coming home strongly in this event and are worth siding with to shed the maiden tag on her eighth start.
