The dynamic scoring guard was League MVP as he averaged 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assists to lead the Lancers to a 22-3 record and the Merrimack Valley Conference large championship. Canery will play at Dodge City next fall on a full scholarship.

RYDER FROST

BEVERLY

The 6-foot-6 junior small forward averaged 23 points and 14 rebounds to help Beverly to the Div. 1 Round 16. Frost scored his 1,000th career point this season and earned Northeastern Conference MVP honors. The sought-after recruit will reclassify at Phillips Exeter beginning in the fall.

NICK MARTINEZ

MALDEN CATHOLIC

The senior guard averaged 21 points and six rebounds to earn Catholic Conference co-MVP honors and lead Malden Catholic to its second straight Div. 2 state title, scoring 28 points in the Lancers’ state championship win over Mansfield.

JOSE PADILLA

NEWTON NORTH

The senior guard poured in 14 points and dished out five assists a game in guiding Newton North to a Div. 1 State semifinal berth while also earning Bay State Carey MVP honors. He also captured the most outstanding player award at the Springfield HoopHall Classic. Padilla will playing at Ithaca.

ZACH WOLINSKI

NORTH ANDOVER

The MVC first team all-conference selection catapulted North Andover into the Div. 1 State Semifinals, scoring 18 points a night. Last fall, the junior also had 14 TDs for the Scarlet Knights football team.

ALL-SCHOLASTICS

NOAH BEAUDET

NORWOOD

The 6-foot-1 senior guard was Tri-Valley League Large MVP as he averaged 26.6 points, seven rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals. A two-time league MVP and member of the National Honor Society, Beaudet concluded his career with 1,329 points. He will play college basketball at Emmanuel College in Boston.

HENRY BICKFORD

NEEDHAM

The senior forward averaged 14 points and six rebounds to earn Bay State Conference all-star honors en route to leading Needham to its first state final. Needham was 47-10 record and won two league championships with Bickford. A member of Middlesex Magic AAU team, Bickford will do a post graduate year at Phillips Exeter.

DAVID BROWN

ST. MARY’S

The senior averaged 15 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals a night to lead the Spartans to the Div. 3 state final. For his career, Brown finished with 1,216 points, 400 assists, over 350 rebounds, and more than 200 steals. Brown will play football at Bentley.

MALACHI BRYANT

CATHOLIC MEMORIAL

One of the best pure point guards in Massachusetts in 2023, Bryant helped Catholic Memorial to an 18-3 overall record and the top seed in the Div. 1 state tournament. The senior tallied 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists to earn co-MVP honors of the Catholic Conference. An honor roll student, Bryant will continue his playing career at Quincy College.

JOSH CAMPBELL

ARCHBISHOP WILLIAMS

Campbell finished his career in style scoring 23 points to go with eight rebounds, three assists, and two rebounds a game to lead Archbishop Williams to the Div. 3 state title. The 1,000-point scorer was Catholic Central League MVP, highlighted by a 50-point, 15-rebound effort in an overtime win over Burke. Campbell will continue his playing career at Bridgewater State University.

BRIAN CLOONAN

NEEDHAM

A breakout star, Cloonan was one of the top guards in Eastern Mass. in 2023 as he averaged 14 points and four assists to guide Needham to its first state final appearance. Cloonan earned Co-MVP of the Bay State Conference’s Herget Division. The junior guard is also a member of Needham’s volleyball team which grabbed a state championship in 2022.

TAVAJ COPE

FENWAY

The senior guard poured in 25 points a night to go with five rebounds and five assists to lead Fenway to a 16-4 record. Cope scored a career-high 40 points versus Brighton to go with a 27-point performance versus Div. 4 state semifinalist Burke. Also a member of the track and football teams, Cope plans to do a postgraduate year in the fall in hopes of pursuing a college basketball career.

MATTHEW GAFFNEY

MALDEN CATHOLIC

The sophomore point guard was a centerpiece of Malden Catholic’s Div. 2 state title, averaging 18 points and five rebounds to earn Catholic Conference all-star honors. An honor roll student, Gaffney plays for Mass Rivals on the AAU circuit and hopes to pursue a collegiate basketball career.

TYRESE MELO GARCIA

LYNN ENGLISH

One of the top pure scorers in Massachusetts, Melo Garcia averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists a night. Melo Garcia finished with over 1,000 career points including a 43-point performance versus Springfield Central his junior season. The senior is a two time Greater Boston League all-star. A two-time Boston Herald all-scholastic, Melo Garcia is undecided on his collegiate plans.

JOEY HART

CENTRAL CATHOLIC

The junior guard scored 15.6 points and seven rebounds a night while also dishing out 3.5 assists as the Raiders reached the Div. 1 quarterfinals. A Merrimack Valley Conference first team selection, Hart was the IAABO Board 27 Comcast Tournament most valuable player as he led the Raiders to wins over Beverly and Central Catholic. He will reclassify at Governor’s Academy in the fall.

JAYLEN HUNTER-COLEMAN

CHARLESTOWN

Hunter-Coleman was one of the top freshman in the MIAA this winter as he dazzled from the point guard spot. He finished the year averaging 15 points, five assists, and five rebounds while earning Boston City League all-star and all-tournament team honors. A captain for the football team and member of the track team, Coleman plays for Expressions Elite on the AAU circuit.

WARREN KEEL

LYNN ENGLISH

The sophomore tallied 25 points, five assists, and five rebounds a night to lead the Bulldogs to a 20-2 overall record. The Greater Boston League’s MVP plays for Mass Rivals on the AAU circuit. Keel hopes to secure a college basketball opportunity.

AJAY LOPES

WAREHAM

The junior point guard averaged 16 points, 7.7 assists, and 2 steals for the Div. 4 state champs. The South Coast Conference MVP scored 37 points in the Vikings’ state semifinal win over Millbury. He’s also a conference all-star in football.

RYAN MACLELLAN

ANDOVER

The 6-foot point guard scored 17 points a game to go with four steals and three assists to earn Merrimack Valley Conference first-team honors as a senior. The 2021 co-MVP of the Merrimack Valley Conference finished his career with over 40 career wins. MacLellan will continue his playing career at WPI.

HUNTER MATTESON

DARTMOUTH

One of the top forwards in the Bay State. He averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds while also passing the 1,000 career point threshold. The Southeast Conference MVP led the Indians to a conference championship. Matteson plays for Middlesex Magic on the AAU circuit.

LIAM MCBRIDE

HINGHAM

The senior scored 24 points a game to go with seven rebounds and three assists. In Hingham’s win over Duxbury on senior night, McBride became the first player in program history to record 1,000 career points. The Patriot League Keenan’s Most Valuable Player will do a postgraduate at Deerfield Academy before hoping to pursue a college basketball career.

EDDIE MCCOY

MANSFIELD

McCoy starred when Mansfield needed him most, scoring 21 points per game in the postseason to help lead Mansfield to a spot in the Div. 2 state final. For the year, the junior guard scored 12 points a night to go with 5.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.5 steals en route to the Hockomock League’s Davenport title and earned him league all-star honors.

JACOB MCLOUGHLIN

SHARON

The junior point guard put up 15 points, five assists, three rebounds, and three steals a game en route to the No. 3 seed in Div. 2. The Hockomock League all-star is also a standout on the gridiron where he led Sharon in touchdown receptions a season ago. He plays for Middlesex Magic on the AAU circuit.

CAMERON MONTEIRO

BROCKTON

Mostly known for his excellence on the football field, he showcased once again this winter that he is also a star on the basketball court. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard put up 16 points, seven rebounds, and five assists to lead Brockton to the Div. 1 quarterfinals. Monteiro, who holds numerous Div. 1 offers as a wide receiver, plays for Mass Rivals on the AAU basketball circuit.

SEAN O’LEARY

FRANKLIN

The top player in the Hockomock League averaged 20 points, eight rebounds, and three assists to get the league’s Most Valuable Player award. O’Leary’s efforts led Franklin to a 19-2 overall record and the third overall seed in the Div, 1 Tournament. Elected as a captain for his senior season, O’Leary plays for Middlesex Magic on the AAU circuit.

ALEX PENDERS

FOXBORO

The 6-foot-5 forward led the Hockomock League in scoring (20.7), rebounding (13.2), and blocks (1.9). Penders finished his career with 1,026 career points and 691 career rebounds. A member of National Honor Society, Penders will play at Ithaca.

DANNY REYES

LAWRENCE

The senior guard averaged 11 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds a night to lead Lawrence to the Div. 1 quarterfinals. A first-team Merrimack Valley Conference selection, Reyes is set to continue his playing career at a prep school in the fall.

LUKE RINADLI

DOVER-SHERBORN

The senior scored 20 points a night to go with six rebounds to earn Tri Valley League co-MVP honors. Rinaldi finished his career with 1,131 points over four years as a starter. The two-year captain will continue his playing career at Claremont McKenna College in southern California.

JAEDEN ROBERTS

BURKE

Roberts dominated seemingly every night as he scored 19 points an evening while often being the primary focal point for the opposing defense. The Boston City League’s most valuable player led Burke to its second consecutive city title. Only a sophomore, Roberts plays on the AAU circuit for Team New England.

RYAN SVENDSEN

ARLINGTON CATHOLIC

Svendsen poured in an eye-popping 30 points per game this winter and finished his career with 1,460 career points to become the all-time leading scorer in Arlington Catholic program history. A two-time Catholic Central League all-star, Svendsen is undecided on his collegiate destination.

ZACH TAYLOR

NORTH QUINCY

Taylor averaged 25 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Taylor scored 30 points or more in a game five times and over 20 points on 14 separate occasions. The senior forward’s play earned him Patriot League Fisher Division’s Most Valuable Player award.

MIKE WILKINSON

WAKEFIELD

The senior averaged 20.6 points a night including a 36-point performance in Wakefield’s opening round win in the MIAA Div. 2 State Tournament. Wilkinson was the Middlesex Freedom Division’s MVP and finished his career a two-time league all-star.

JAYDEN WILLIAMS

ARLINGTON

The Middlesex Liberty Division’s MVP averaged 21 points per game to lead Arlington to a share of the league championship. Williams finished the 2023 campaign as the league’s leading scorer and totaled over 800 points for his career. Williams is undecided on his future plans.
