The show has toured North America and Europe since its 2015 debut.

Described as a “mind-blowing experience for audiences of all generations,” it chronologically documents the period from the first atomic bomb in 1945 all the way to the Apollo 11 landing on the moon in 1969.

“These two iconic moments span one of the most tumultuous times in modern history, as a generation with incredible influence came of age alongside advances in technology and communication,” says a media release. “Rick Miller performs all the characters and 25 moment-defining songs in a stunningly staged production that blends cutting-edge multimedia and tour-de-force storytelling. Experience the global events as they unfold: The Cold War, McCarthyism, Beatlemania, JFK, MLK, Vietnam. The various stories spiral into the “The Summer of Love” and BOOM ends as it began, with the birth of a new generation.”

According to the Regina Musical Club, the concert is “an ode to women composers, frequently left in the shadow of their contemporaries.”

Kristmanson has toured the world as a singer, songwriter, trumpet player, guitarist and scholar of medieval music. She began composing at a young age and toured the Canadian folk festival circuit as a teenager, winning the Best Young Performer’s Award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2008 and the Colleen Peterson Award for songwriting in 2009 before she landed a recording contract in France.

Last week, she released her latest studio album, Floralia.

While in Regina, Kristmanson and Trio SR9 are to hold a workshop for artists with disabilities from the Listen to Dis’ Community Arts Organization.

Black Drones in the Hive, by award-winning artist Deanna Bowen of Montreal, “exposes the omission of Black history in both institutions and their policies.” It comprises approximately 100 objects, including framed images, audio, and video elements.

The combination of archives, historical publications, and wartime propaganda “weaves together narratives of labour, migration, dispossession and militarization,” according to a media release. “Through this sprawling exhibition, Bowen illuminates what is often overlooked — connecting history with contemporary conversations on race, colonization, and cultural monuments.”

The second exhibition, Turning the Lens: Indigenous Archival Project, “celebrates the everyday life and ongoing resilience of Indigenous communities.”

The exhibit by Saskatoon-based artist Paul Seesequasis “invites visitors to consider the relationship between history and public memory.” It features archival images of Indigenous peoples by photojournalist Rosemary Gilliat Eaton (from the 1950 to ’60s) and Regina-based photographer Edgar Rossie (1919 ).

The project began in 2015 while Seesequasis was researching the digital collections of national and provincial archives, libraries, museums, and historical societies. His project “is intended to emphasize the survival of Indigenous ancestors, the erosion of genocidal policies and the determination to keep familial ties, languages, and customs alive.”

Tonight’s opening reception, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., includes free admission. Both artists are slated to be in attendance to participate in a public conversation hosted by director of programs Crystal Mowry, who also curated Black Drones in the Hive.
