Intermission:

As the inquiry intensifies, Batman and the GCPD learn that the Riddler is collaborating with Oswald “The Penguin” Cobblepot, a subordinate of crime lord Carmine Falcone and that District Attorney Gil Colson is also employed by Falcone. Colson is kidnapped by The Riddler, who makes him wear a collar bomb that will detonate if he doesn’t respond to his riddles. Batman gets arrested after being accused of killing Colson and manages to escape with Gordon’s assistance. At the remains of an orphanage supported by Bruce’s slain parents, Batman and Gordon discover the Riddler’s animosity towards the Wayne family after following the trail of evidence there.

Climax:

Batman and Gordon find the Riddler in the film’s closing act after he has detonated car bombs around Gotham and recruited followers to kill Mayor-elect Bella Reál. In order to avoid the Riddler’s wrath and preserve the city, Batman must stop the bombs from detonating. Batman is able to stop the Riddler’s followers and capture Falcone with the aid of Selina Kyle, who it is later revealed is the daughter of Falcone.

The Riddler is ultimately revealed to be forensic accountant Edward Nashton, who is a patient at Arkham State Hospital and informs Batman there that he was his inspiration. Batman pledges to instill hope in Gotham while helping with the recovery efforts. With hope for the future of the city, the film comes to a close.
