Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon, formerly of Fox News and CNN respectively, have enlisted the services of renowned attorney Bryan Freedman, famous for securing multimillion-dollar settlements in high-profile media disputes. The news was first reported by ex-CNN host Brian Stelter. Freedman has an impressive track record, having represented Megyn Kelly in her $30 million settlement with NBC News in 2019, as well as negotiating an undisclosed settlement for Gabrielle Union in 2020 after she cited discrimination in her dismissal as a judge on America’s Got Talent, according to Forbes.

In 2021, Freedman assisted Chris Harrison in obtaining a $10 million settlement after he was removed as host of ABC’s The Bachelor, as reported by Insider. He is currently seeking $125 million for former CNN host Chris Cuomo in a wrongful termination lawsuit against the network. Freedman’s past clients include high-profile celebrities like Mariah Carey, Quentin Tarantino, Vin Diesel, and Kevin Spacey. Additionally, he helped Michael Jackson’s estate secure $100 million from HBO in relation to the 2019 Leaving Neverland documentary, which alleged child molestation by Jackson, on the grounds that HBO had signed a non-disparagement agreement with the singer in 1992.

The fact that both Carlson and Lemon have hired Freedman, who has been featured on the Hollywood Reporter’s annual “Power Lawyers” list every year since 2008, suggests they “might pursue legal action against their old networks—or push the companies to pay up,” according to Forbes. The Wall Street Journal reports that Fox plans to pay Carlson his usual salary of approximately $20 million per year until his contract expires, though the exact end date remains unclear. The contract was renewed in 2021. It remains to be seen if CNN will follow suit with Lemon, who was under contract until 2026, as noted by the New York Times.
