Listening to a Christmas album at the end of February is one of the many surprises this project has in store for us. And spoiler alert, I didn’t have a bad time. Plus it allowed me to know a little more about Phil Spector, whose name and end of judicial career I knew.

The Crystals signed a contract with Phil Spector’s Philles Records in 1961, and their first single, “There’s No Other (Like My Baby),” was released the same year. Their most famous song is probably “Da Doo Ron Ron,” which was released in 1963 and reached number three on the U.S. charts.

Darlene Love began her musical career as a member of the Blossoms, a Los Angeles vocal group that worked as a session singer for various artists, including Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley and the Righteous Brothers. She has also had a career in film. She played the role of Trish, Roger Murtaugh’s wife in Lethal Weapon.

The introduction to “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” begins with bells ringing, creating a festive mood and a sense of joy. As soon as Darlene Love begins to sing, you can hear her powerful and moving voice conveying all the sadness and loneliness felt during the Christmas holidays in the absence of a loved one.
