NIGHT SWIM

Fans of Blumhouse Productions horror movies should definitely be excited about this one! Universal, Atomic Monster and Blumhouse’s upcoming collaboration is Night Swim, a new horror film about which we know very little, but that is based on director Bryce McGuire’s, 2014 short film, which he co-directed with Rod Blackhurst. The movie is about a swimming pool and has some supernatural and thriller elements to it, and it stars Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin).
Produced by James Wan and Jason Blum, among others, Night Swim was supposed to be released on January 19 but it’s now opening in US theaters on January 5, according to Deadline.
THE BOOK OF CLARENCE

The director of The Harder They Fall is back with a new feature from Sony and Legendary. The Book of Clarence, which was supposed to hit theaters in October 2023 and has been postponed to January 2024 according to Screen International, is a biblical story, just like its title suggests. Starring LaKeith Stanfield, Omar Sy, Benedict Cumberbatch, RJ Cyler, David Oyelowo, Anna Diop and James McAvoy, it’s about a Jerusalem man who tries to use the advent of the Messiah for his own gain but ends up learning about faith instead.
BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE

Bob Marley: One Love is a celebration of the titular singer, looking at the life and music of the iconic star and how he inspired generations with a message of unity and love. Bob Marley’s story has never been told before, and it’s coming to the big screen in a movie that was produced with the help of the Marley family, with Kingsley Ben-Adir as the lead and Lashana Lynch as Bob’s wife Rita. Also starring James Norton, Tosin Cole, Anthony Welsh, Michael Gandolfini, Umi Myers, and Nadine Marshall.
THE TIGER’S APPRENTICE

In the works since 2022, The Tiger’s Apprentice was initially supposed to be released in 2023, but the release date has now been set for January 19, 2024. The film is about a Chinese American boy named Tom Lee who discovers that magic runs in his family, and, like his ancestors before him, is tasked with being the protector – or “Guardian” of the Chinese Zodiac. Evil forces threaten the universe and Tom’s only hope is bringing all the Zodiac animal warriors together as a team, and fight back.
The movie stars Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding, Sandra Oh, Kyle Jarrow, and David Magee, among others.

WISE GUYS

The director of Rain Man is back with a crime drama starring genre pro Robert De Niro as not one, but two leading characters. In Wise Guys, De Niro plays both Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, two Italian Americans who run separate crime families and have a complicated history of betrayals and assassination attempts. One of them retired from the mafia, which makes the movie even more exciting. Also starring Debra Messing.
ARGYLLE

Global Release: soon on Apple TV+
This spy thriller starring Henry Cavill has been one of the most Anticipated movies of the year for quite some time, as it’s been in production for over a year. This Apple TV+ release is currently scheduled to be out US theaters on February 2, and Apple’s films usually hit the streaming platform worldwide not long after their theatrical release, so it should be available globally soon.
Argylle follows the adventures of its globe-trotting titular super-spy, played by Cavill. It is set in the U.S., London and various locations, and it also stars Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Dua Lipa, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Ariana DeBose and Samuel L. Jackson.
DIRTY DANCING (2024)

Oh yes, another Dirty Dancing movie is coming, this time from director Jonathan Levine (50/50). The film is not a reboot, but a continuation of Baby’s (Jennifer Grey) story, as she takes us back to Kellerman’s Resort. Needless to say, there will be love, and there will be dancing.

Here’s another highly anticipated Sony Release. Madame Webb is another Spider-Man spin-off, this time revolving around the titular clairvoyant mutant, played by none other than Dakota Johnson. The movie has been delayed twice: let’s hope the February 16, 2024 release date is confirmed! Also starring Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott.

The director of Coco is back with another story that looks incredible, and is definitely one of the most anticipated releases of the year! Disney and Pixar’s 28th feature movie, Elio, is about the titular underdog – a boy with an active imagination who is inadvertently beamed up to a mysterious new world. Said world is actually an interplanetary organization called the Communiverse, where each universe sends a representative to discuss the most important matters of the universe.
And so, Elio is mistakenly identified as Earth’s official ambassador, and chaos ensues. But it’s also an opportunity for our protagonist to find out who he really is, by interacting with aliens, surviving trials, and growing up in the process. Starring America Ferrera, Yonas Kibreab, Jameela Jamil, and Brad Garrett.

Universal has a new project, based on the 1980s TV show of the same name and telling the story of a stuntman! We don’t know anything else about it, but it stars Ryan Gosling in the titular role, alongside Hannah Waddingham, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Emily Blunt. Count us in!
A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE

A new A Quiet Place sequel is coming, and Paramount set the release date to March 8! It stars Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Lupita Nyong’o, Djimon Hounsou, and Denis O’Hare, and we don’t know anything else about it yet.
GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE

The Monsterverse continues with a new adventure! As always, Godzilla and Kong team up against a new enemy that might cause the destruction of everything. As of today, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire‘s global release date has been set to March 15, 2024.

The first Disney reboot we’re going to see in 2024 is Snow White, a remake of the titular 1937 movie that put the company on the map. If you’re familiar with the original film, you know the plot. What’s exciting about this one is that Rachel Zegler will play the protagonist and Gal Gadot will be the Evil Queen.

Bong Joon Ho (Parasite) has a new film in the works, and it’s based on Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel of the same name. We don’t know much about it, but it’s a film set in space where Robert Pattinson stars as an “expendable” – a disposable employee that is sent on dangerous mission and then replicated when he dies, with his memories intact. Here, our Mickey is the 17th clone, and he has to go on an expedition to colonize a dystopian ice world called Niflheim. Starring Steven Yeun Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo, and Toni Collette.
SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE

The sequel to Across the Spider-Verse is coming, and since things started to get interesting as soon as the titles rolled, we’re expecting this new adventure to start where the previous one left off, with a cliffhanger! Not only that, but Sony has gotten us used to superb, ground-breaking animation, well-rounded characters, and a stunning multiverse. We couldn’t be more excited.

Remember that hilarious Deadpool update shared by Ryan Reynolds last year? The time has finally come for us to see Deadpool 3, where he stars alongside Hugh Jackman. Jackman’s return to the franchise is a surprise after Logan, which was supposed to be his last movie, and we don’t wait to find out more.
MY EX FRIEND’S WEDDING

The screenwriter of the Pitch Perfect trilogy is back with her directorial debut, a comedy with an all-star cast that includes Amanda Seyfried, Kay Cannon, Liza Koshy, and Ariana DeBose. This Sony production revolves around a group of four childhood friends who receive a drunken voicemail from their close friend, who tells them that she’s about to get married but she things it might be a mistake. Needless to say, our heroines come to the rescue and decide to stop the wedding.

The most anticipated prequel of 2024 is Furiosa, starring Anya Taylor-Joy as the titular Imperator we know from the highly acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke are also in the film.

John Krasinski directs If and also stars in it alongside Ryan Reynolds and an all star cast. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Steve Carell, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Fiona Shaw, Cailey Fleming, Maya Rudolph, and Awkwafina are all attached to this animated fantasy film about a girl who can see the titular “IF”, which stands for Imaginary Friends who were abandoned once their “humans” grew up. It’s Krasinski’s first comedy after the A Quiet Place films, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Will this be related to Cobra Kai? Or will this go back to the origins? We don’t know yet: all we know is that Jonathan Entwistle (Apple TV+’s Hello Tomorrow!) will direct it. We are intrigued.
BALLERINA: A JOHN WICK SPIN OFF MOVIE

Ballerina is without a doubt one of the most exciting movies of 2024. Not only is it the first John Wick spin-off in existence, but it’s also directed by Len Wiseman (Lucifer, Underworld) and it stars Ana de Armas as the lead. Needless to say, the film is about a woman assassin, and if you paid close attention to Parabellum, you already know something about her. Also starring Keanu Reeves, this revenge tale is definitely one to look out for.

Ishana Shyamalan, daughter of M. Night Shyamalan, is making a film! It’s the adaptation of A.M. Shine’s claustrophobic novel of the same name, a very promising book that features forests, mysteries, and terrifying creatures. In The Watchers, Dakota Fanning stars as Mina, a 28-year-old artist who gets lost in an Irish forest and finds refuge with three strangers.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE DEAD RECKONING, PART TWO

It’s never too soon to start talking about the eight Mission: Impossible movie – or, rather, the continuation of the seventh. Dead Reckoning Part One took the world by storm with its surprisingly fresh storytelling and incredible action setpieces, and Part Two will conclude the story and hopefully give us more of that while also delivering a satisfying conclusion. The cast includes Tom Cruise, Henry Czerny, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson, Pom Klementieff, and Vanessa Kirby.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD

What was supposed to be called Captain America: New World Order got a new name in June, as reported by Variety. The fourth Captain America movie will be called Brave New World, and the release date is July 19, 2024. Harrison Ford plays General Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross, the Hulk’s main enemy in the comic books, played by the late William Hurt until Black Widow. Also attached to the project is Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, alongside Anthony Mackie, Carl Lumbly, Danny Ramirez, and more.
