2nd Sword Art Online: Progressive Film Will Screen in U.K. and Ireland Cinemas From February 1

The second instalment of the Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- anime film series, Scherzo of Deep Night (Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Kuraki Yyami no Scherzo), has tickets available. With ties to theatres in the Odeon, Showcase, Vue, and Cineworld chains, it will begin playing in the UK and Ireland on February 1 in both subtitled and English-dubbed versions. Crunchyroll distributes the movie.

The Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series by Reki Kawahara is the inspiration for the anime. As an updated retelling of Kawahara’s original Sword Art Online books, the novel series debuted in 2012. Floor by floor, the narrative follows Kirito as he makes his way through the floating Aincrad castle from the very beginning.

A few of the actors from the first movie, Sword Art Online: The Movie (Progressive), Aria of a Starless Night, are back for this one. The following summary of the second movie may be found on the website [with some spoilers for the first movie]:

“Since 10,000 people were stranded within the virtual world, more than a month has passed. Asuna followed Kirito and began her ascent to the top level of the Aincrad floating iron fortress after conquering the first floor. Clearing the floors seemed to be going nicely with assistance from the female Information Broker Argo, but… Aincrad Liberation Squad (ALS) and Dragon Knights Brigade (DKB) are the two player groupings who are currently leading in clears. These two important guilds, who should be cooperating, go into conflict. But there is a shadowy entity operating behind the scenes…”

Ayako Kohno (unit director on High School Fleet, The Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Sky, and Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic) and Kento Toya (character designer on The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of The Commandments, Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld) both returned to direct the movie at A-1 Pictures. Yuki Kajiura once again composed the soundtrack, while Yasuyuki Kai once more directed the action. Song “Shinz,” sung by Eir Aoi (Heart) .
