It’s Just Not ‘Pollyanna, ‘It’s a Spirited Story, Eco Thriller Tipping Point Glimpses for Hope Amid Climate Crisis

Berlinale’s Co-Pro Series titled Tipping Point leads to the end of the world – Svalbard – to tell a story of a youthful activist at war with her oil executive father until he is murdered.

Chasing a piece of robbed software that can be used either to destroy the world or enhance it, just like the atomic bomb, she is researching his death.

A ReelMedia (Finland) and Maipo Film (Norway) show will start shooting in 2024.

“In Svalbard are scientists, spies, military connects, environmentalists, miners. There were polar malcontents and even a bust of Lenin because no one bothered to take it down. You can’t create it up,” laughs head writer Brendan Foley, pledging the location will keep the tale “contained.”

“When speaking about the environment, TV has an issue. Especially when it tries to contend with Hollywood, where it’s all about CGI tremors and tidal waves. We try to concentrate on the characters.”

ReelMedia’s Markku Flink adds: “You need to be capable of presenting a complex issue understandably. It’s not acceptable that it’s a ‘worthy’ story. It has to be fascinating.”

The series, currently shopping for Nordic leaders and Norwegian talent, will combine unresolved family problems with action spectacle and a report on the climate crisis.

“correct now, There is so much going on in the world. In a way, [our show] reflects that,” says Foley.

“If you have a daughter and a parent, arguing doesn’t stop weather change, war, or economic anxieties. All these things are occurring to the same people simultaneously.”

Generational clashes will create a big chunk of the story.

“Her view is extremely black and white. ‘This older generation fucked it all up, and we are choosing up the pieces.’ His view echoed his generation: Just because something isn’t the way you like accomplished means you get to ignore it.

The large thing, for me, was a coming-of-age story. She has to contend with that messy world where all kinds of bad things occur.”

She gradually began to see more shades of grey and found her father after his death. Determining whether to continue his work with the help of his “slightly dodgy” workers or to find her way.

“Tipping Point” will reflect recent issues and fears of the “not-so-cold Cold War,” follows Foley even though they vary constantly.

“The distance between something considered outlandish science fiction received science or ancient history in the eco-thriller earth can be as little as six months. We have concentrated on plot lines that will stay appropriate and topical.”

But they won’t be lecturing anybody, emphasizes Reel Media’s head of content Johanna Enäsuo.

“action for years. The youngsters have been screaming. They are currently suing their governments. It’s an essential story for them as well, inspiring and delightful,” she says, also opening up about the visible side of the show.

“underwater in the Arctic ReelMedia has incredible expertise in filming. Even before the battle reached the wires and pipes underneath it, it was one of the world’s most delicate ecosystems.

The group has also collaborated closely with Finnish futurologist, physicist, and novelist Risto Isomäki, whose book “The Sands of Sarasvati” served as an inspiration, according to Flink.

After his black comedy “The Man Who Died” with rising actor Jussi Vatanen, Foley describes the program as another example of playing a little “gamble” with the Nordic noir genre.

“It’s related; a little less depressing and more character-driven. Nordic Noir is still a decent place to start because we are not completely out in the woods here. Nonetheless, we are examining its edges.

Although dealing with some dark topics, he notes hope in the story.

It’s just not ‘Pollyanna. It’s only a Spirited story.
